Traditionally heading into a race with a competitor which is unbeaten from three starts for the season would be a source of confidence.
For Stacey Towers, however, the perfect form is doing little to boost belief!
Towers will make the long journey to Melton on Saturday night to partner Focus for trainer Mark Lee, with the trotter drawn barrier six over 1720 metres.
The daughter of Creatine moves into gate five once the emergency is out of the equation.
Although Focus is racing in sensational fashion, Towers described the pending assignment as “just another run”.
“We are super happy with the way she is going,” Towers said. “She is in terrific shape and will be ready to run another good race.
“I’ve been going into all her races as just another run as anything can happen on the night, plus it can be hard finding the right races for her.
“For example, she was meant to be in Bendigo last night, but there were not enough noms so they scrapped it and the only other one is up in class in Melton on Saturday night.
“I’ve looked at the program and there is nothing for her again next week until Melton.
“She is not blessed with gate speed so the draw is not that important, in fact, the second row may have even been better for her.”
Looking further ahead, Focus will be aimed at next month’s Vicbred Super Series.
“Hopefully she can stay healthy and happy going into the series,” Towers said. “She’s always had ability but not a lot of luck with health as big races come up.
“Things seem to go wrong such as a hoof absence or running a temperature before the APG heats…she has generally gone into those races underdone and can be a problematic mare.
“Everything is so far so good…touch wood it stays that way.”
