Quinlan notches up major training milestone

Star horsewoman Jodi Quinlan registered a personal milestone on Sunday night.

Thanks to her success with Liberty Star Dust, Quinlan notched her 500th win as a trainer.

Fittingly, Liberty Star Dust scored at Quinlan’s former home track, Cranbourne.

Last June, Quinlan reached 2300 wins as a driver after Sky Flair was also triumphant in Cranbourne.

Quinlan’s driving record includes 19 Group 1s, with the standout among the victories her 2004 Miracle Mile success behind the Lance Justice-trained Sokyola at Harold Park.

Quinlan has three Group 1s among her training wins.

“I knew I was somewhere near 500, but had no idea it came up with that win,” Quinlan said. “It wasn’t until I was on my way home I found out.

“Getting little milestones along the way are always nice, but like every trainer, my focus is on my next winner!”

With Quinlan holding the reins, Liberty Star Dust worked to the lead from barrier four before accounting for Arisa and Fortyhours.

The son of Soho Tribeca rated 2:01.1 over 2080 metres to break his maiden at his fourth start.

“Once he found the front, he was always going to be hard to run down,” Quinlan said. “He’s only had a handful of starts for this win and a couple of thirds, so he’s doing alright.

“Everything he has done suggests he will keep improving as he goes along.”

Liberty Star Dust’s win was part of a driving treble for Quinlan, who scored with the Andy Gath-trained Pistol Pearce and Desert Assassin for co-trainer Danny and Gillian Norris.
