Reports good following Plymouth Chubb’s surgery

The reports are as good as could be hoped for Plymouth Chubb according to owner Gary Benson, who remains hopeful the champion juvenile will be back racing sometime this year.

The star squaregaiter has begun the road to recovery following surgery to a long pastern bone he injured early this month.

Benson told thetrots.com.au that Plymouth Chubb required four screws to be inserted into a hind leg, which was discovered to have a fracture after trackwork one morning at trainer Peter Manning’s property. It came just days after his Group 1 Vicbred Super Series triumph at Tabcorp Park Melton on New Year’s Eve.

A cast was removed from Plymouth Chubb’s leg on Monday and Benson said x-rays had shown no further damage since the surgery.

“We couldn’t have wished for any better according to the vet,” Benson said.

It’s all about rest and rehabilitation now for Plymouth Chubb, who still has a long road ahead before potentially getting back to the track.

That Vicbred Super Series victory on December 31 was the gelding’s 14th-straight success and fourth Group 1 win, capping one of the sport’s greatest ever two-year-old seasons.

Plymouth Chubb’s Group 1 wins in 2021 also included the Home Grown Classic, Redwood Classic and Breeders Crown Final, with his first-season earnings tallying over $220,000.
