Moving to South Australia “about eight or nine years ago”, Caton is poised to return across the border for the Swan Hill Trotters’ Cup.
Planning to catch-up with family during his trip, Caton’s vision is to head back to his Globe Derby-base with Victorian money in his pocket and silverware in his hands.
“It’s getting on to a decade since I moved to ‘Mexico’,” Caton said. “I love the lifestyle here.
“It has been a while since I’ve gone back to Victoria, so my family will head to Swan Hill from Shepparton-way and we’ll spend a few hours together.
“With a bit of luck they’ll be cheering me on as a winner and I’ll have plenty of pesos to spend when I get back home!”
Caton will be represented by Madame Kelly, which faces an arduous task in the feature.
Along with being first-up from a 10-month spell, the daughter of Wishing Stone is the sole runner on the 10-metre line.
“It is a reasonable task first-up from a spell, but she is working well enough, so I figured I may as well have a throw at the stumps and see what happens,” Caton said.
“It’s not an extremely tough field, but is a very equal one.
“She trialled against pacers the other day and went very well, so I expect her to run a good race.”
Caton isn’t the only one crossing the border for the event, with South Australia’s training sensation Ella Brechin to contest the 2240-metre stand with Georgy Girl.
Brechin only obtained her license last month and has created a big impression on the local scene with seven wins and a top three finish from 43 per cent of her starters.
Brechin has already won a Trotters’ Cup and trained a Saturday night treble at Globe Derby.
Providing Brechin with her maiden win on September 20, Georgy Girl will begin from four along the front line.
