San Carlo out of Hunter Cup, King Of Swing gains start

1.24pm update: Stewards have advised that Mach Shard will undergo a vet check upon arrival tonight at Tabcorp Park Melton after trainer Barry Purdon advised he wasn’t 100 per cent happy with the horse’s action.

Purdon has had the Del-Re National A.G. Hunter Cup runner reshod and stewards will make a call after taking advice from vets tonight.

Earlier, Del-Re National A.G. Hunter Cup emergency King Of Swing gained a start in tonight’s $500,000 race after the scratching of San Carlo (pictured) this morning.

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) issued a media release on Thursday outlining the fact stewards had found San Carlo to be “mildly lame in the off foreleg” and advising that a further check would be undertaken on race morning.

HRV this morning further advised that San Carlo had been withdrawn by stewards after a follow-up veterinarian check found the gelding to be lame.

The Hunter Cup is scheduled for 9.30pm tonight at Tabcorp Park Melton and the market is wide open.

Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen trained Chase Auckland is current favourite, but King Of Swing, Alta Orlando, Mach Shard, Lochinvar Art and A Gs White Socks are all at single figure odds.
