Sebastians Boy is set to target Australia’s biggest squaregaiting features ahead of a return to the track this Saturday night.
The Brent Thompson-trained squaregaiter is set to line-up in Saturday night’s Garrards Trot after a lengthy break dating back to May 11.
“I just thought I would give him a good break after his last run, I didn’t want to take on the good boys just yet,” Thompson said.
“I did plan on having him there for the Bill Collins Trotters Sprint, but he had a few hiccups and took a bit longer to get back there.
“He seems good and his last trial was a bit more like his old self, we are pretty happy with him.”
The gelding out of Prettygirl Lassie has taken time to mature.
“I was hoping he would put on a bit more weight and tone up mentally, I just gave him a good break after he went through a phase, where he couldn’t trot and I had no idea why not, but he just turned the corner.”
The 43-year-old thinks he has the horse to mix it with the countries best squaregaiting stars.
“Just Believe, is Just Believe, but I am happy to take them on and my boy has just got that sprint and I think he will just sit off pace,” Thompson said.
“I just think this time round with a couple of runs and then the Grand Prix and then the Inter Dominion, that will be the plan and I think he will be better this time next year.”
The Kyabram horseman has earmarked the 2024 Inter Dominion series as a serious target for the gelding.
“The Inter Dominion is my main game, I think it will be hard on him the series, but if we drive him quiet and I think he will make the series,” he said.
Nathan Jack is set to pilot the gelding from barrier eight in Saturday night’s $17,500 event.
“I’m hoping he can get off the fence and hopefully he can come with the one run and he should be there at the end,” he said.
The Garrards Trot is set to go at 9.15pm.
