The Goodform Gameplan: Bendigo Saturday 11th July

RACE 1:

The relatively late removal of Arden Voyager has thrown this opening event into turmoil and while I’d suggest LOUIS SEDGWICK (1) virtually can’t miss a place that will only be useful to punters planning on playing extensive multis. I sense from a class if not form perspective that RUPERT OF LINCOLN (13) represents overs but I will be personally letting this short ball go straight through to Greg Dyer.

SUGGESTED BETS: Nothing significant (Confidence rating that Louis Sedgwick will win)

We’re going to play a little fast and loose here. Speed Maps are finicky beasts at the best of times but this one is particularly tricky as EMERALD STRIDE (4) should lead and then eventually trail gun former Kiwi C K SPUR (7) but it’s far from certain that will happen. We won’t break the bank on this event for that very reason but we will have a little crack hoping that life works out exactly as we had planned.

Flexi Trifecta: 4/ 7/ 1,2,10,12: $8 gets 200%

Flexi Trifecta: 7/ 1,2,10,12/ 4: $2 gets 50%

With limited time to study this meeting due to the recently applied regional protocols in Victoria I stupidly felt that DARK TERROR (9) might pop up at a backable price but he is actually $1.55 and at that price around Bendigo form a second line draw he’s actually poison. I still think he’ll win but I can’t fathom a confident way of making money from the race so throw him into multis if you’re a thrill-seeker but otherwise just sit back and enjoy the race as a spectacle.

Like many races tonight this final leg of the Early Quad is a bizarre event but I committed the moment I saw this field to BOPPER JET (10) and haven’t changed my mind. Normally with his racing style I’d be massively worried about tempo as he only makes one withering run but this is not a strong field and he is a good horse when right so $6 is more than good enough for me.

$30 Each way Bopper Jet (10) at $4.50 or better

I may have read this race wrong with the limited study period but I am supremely confident that one of my new favourite horses EUREKA (3) will lead and win just as he’s made a habit of doing in recent weeks. I am phenomenally surprised that he could be $2.05 while COURAGEOUS SAINT (10) is $3.50. I’m happy to cop my right whack if wrong but COURAGEOUS SAINT (10) IMO simply cannot win. I was originally planning to play an exotic in this event but with prices released I’m just smacking EUREKA (3) straight out.

SUGGESTED BET:

$50 Win on Eureka (3) at $1.80 or better

She is prone to misbehaviour so you could never declare the super smart IMSETTOGO (13) at a short quote but they’ve been generous enough to offer $8 which seems outrageous after her mindblowing win last start even from a truly shocking alley. There are no guarantees with her but if she scores up she’s the one to beat in a very open race.

$20 Each Way on IMSETTOGO (13) at $6 or better

I have no earthly idea how CARLA CLARE (8) is $26 tonight. She was utterly luckless in a better race last start and has always possessed well above average ability. I have the very strong feeling that this is her race but you cannot declare her from a horrid draw in a difficult race. Fortunately at the inflated quote we don’t have to. We just back her Each Way.

$30 Each Way Carla Clare at $10 or better

I am far from declaring FREDDY FUNK (9) but at his current quote of $10 he’s too good to refuse on an EW basis. It’s tough to believe he could be $10 based on his last start effort and in a race where he has a class edge I believe there’s every chance he will reward us.
