Race 1

Confidence:

Nasty little race to kick off the card where the Map is tricky to nail and there are two confusing debutantes that have both trialled well enough to pretty much scare you off the contest as a betting proposition. If you have personally projected ORBIE (6) as the likely leader then he is potentially backable at around $2.80 but I will be attacking this event through Early Quads only and saving my bullets for later in the card.

SUGGESTED BETS: Nothing significant (Confidence rating that Orbie will win)

Race 2

Confidence:

Originally I didn’t see this squaregaiting affair with masses of front line gate speed as a very attractive wagering option but prices can change that; and they have. Last time KYVALLEY CHIEF (8) and WHIZZBANG DAN (10) met was just three weeks back with the former horse at $4 and the latter at $3.60. Courtesy of his better draw and better manners WHIZZBANG DAN (10) was dominant in winning that race. For some reason tonight the market wants to tell us that KYVALLEY CHIEF (8) is a $1.85 chance and WHIZZBANG DAN (10) is $6. It makes no sense so we must get involved with WHIZZBANG DAN (10) at an Each Way basis ASAP.

SUGGESTED BETS:

$15 Each Way on Whizzbang Dan (10) at $5 or better.

Race 3

Confidence:

From a fan perspective I am eagerly anticipating this juvenile affair where we may not be dealing with the absolute cream but we are getting a better guide on some pretty handy youngsters. Sadly, the market has seen the race a little too similar to me however which has all but negated our chance to find a worthwhile wager. Ultimately I suspect either HOLI STARZZZ (10) or DELIGHTFUL NIKKY (1) will win but I’d want $3 and $5 about them respectively to play and if either drifted so far from their current price to reach those quotes your confidence would be dented regardless.

SUGGESTED BETS: Nothing significant (Confidence rating that either Holi Starzzz or Delightful Nikky will win)

Race 4

Confidence:

Given I’m unconvinced about the exact race shape or likely tempo here it was always going to take something quite left-field from a price perspective to seduce me into a flutter on this fourth event and predictably enough there were no major market errors we could exploit. That being said if you were really keen to play then CEE VEE VEE (5) isn’t awful value at $4.80.

SUGGESTED BET: Nothing significant (Confidence rating that Cee Vee Vee will win)

Race 5

Confidence:

I was hoping the price assessors would mark LEONIDAS (11) at a filthy short price and that’s’ exactly what they’ve done ($1.40). What cannot be disputed is how well that fellow is racing. He has been ablaze for weeks now and deserves to be the benchmark runner but $1.40 about almost any horse drawn outside the second row over Bendigo’s 1650m trip at this level is insane so we have been afforded an opportunity to play. The way I read this race STREITKID (4) should find the front within 100m of the start and, critically, he’ll do no work to get there and cop precious little pressure through the first 400. If he can settle and work into a rhythm while LEONIDAS (11) is working to circumnavigate the field then I reckon he can upset the hot fave while WAYONBYE (2) has been disrespected at $16 and is also worthy of an Each Way wager.

SUGGESTED BET:

$30 Each Way on Streitkid (4) at $6 or better

$15 Each Way on Wayonbye (2) at $12 or better

Race 6

Confidence:

The more I’ve peered into the soul of this race the less appealing it has become from a punting perspective, largely because I’m unsure whether TRE COOL (1) or OUR DOREEN DAYS (2) will lob the trailing role behind likely leader CALAQUENDI (4) and that confuses the issue too much for my liking. Happily however, I did find one at overs I’m prepared to play Each Way. Basically we now want TRE COOL (1) to hold OUR DOREEN DAYS (2) early because if he does then MOTU CULLEN (8) should be 3 poles and has a legitimate knockout hope at $15 should that be the case. I would have accepted $10 so bet early to avoid disappointment.

SUGGESTED BETS:

$15 Each Way on Motu Cullen (8) at $10 or better

Race 7

Confidence:

From the moment I set my Speed Map in stone here I was chomping at the bit to find out what price we could get about PAYING YOUR WAY (6). Recent news that BELITTLED (5) plans to go forward has dulled my enthusiasm ever so slightly but if PAYING YOUR WAY (6) works to the front without busting a gasket then this race is his to lose and I’m willing to play at $2.50 or better. The only other bet I’m having is something 1 x 3 on INAUGURATE (3) who will certainly win a race like this in the very near future and will be sent around at much larger odds than he should be tonight.

SUGGESTED BETS:

$30 Win on Paying Your Way (6) at $2.50 or better

$5 Win & $15 Place on Inaugurate (3) at $26 or better

Race 8

Confidence:

I was quite keen to take on red-figure favourite BIG JACK HAMMER (8) in the last but ROBBIE ROYALE (5) was going to be my play and he just isn’t juicy enough in early markets for the race. If you can get $5 somewhere then I suggest you take it but otherwise plan to exploit the event via Quaddies only.

SUGGESTED BETS: Nothing significant. (Confidence rating that Robbie Royale will run a race if he finds the top!)

Early Quaddie

During my Tuesday Tutorial earlier this week I outlined the fact that having even a small wager on most races and consistently placing Quaddies, even for low percentages, will help to ensure you watch races with the eye of an investor and that you’ll remember those contests with greater acuity than if you’d stayed out. We are employing that theory with the Early Quad. I’m not sure there’s much cabbage to be made here but we should get something small and if Orbie wins the first that will give us a little boost.

Quaddie

These Quads are a little bit wild and very instinctive in many ways but one suspects if we get it we’ll make good cash and if we can Leonidas or Big Jack Hammer beaten – or potentially both – the result could be very tasty indeed. I’m a little uncomfortable with the level of pressure we’ve placed on Paying Your Way but he is my Best so I’ll just be praying things work out for him in the first 300m.
