All is forgiven in the Holloway household after No Telling Heather led all the way in the $62,500 Haras des Trotteurs Nutrien Equine Classic (2YO Trotting Fillies) Final at Bendigo on Friday.
Trained by Ballarat horseman Colin Holloway and driven by his son Brett, No Telling Heather trotted straight to the lead and faultlessly throughout holding off heat winner Maoris Mac and the $1.40 favourite The Priestess.
Father and son were unable to resist the temptation in bidding on the daughter of Love You at last year’s Nutrien Yearling Sales.
Heather, Colin’s wife of 53 years, takes up the story.
“The last thing we needed was another horse, but Colin couldn’t help himself and put his hand up, so they agreed to keep it a secret and not tell me,” Heather said.
“But our granddaughter Demi rang me on the way home to tell me and Colin said he could see the fumes coming out of the phone. Jokingly, I locked the back door,” she said.
Heather was first on to the track to greet No Telling Heather on returning after the race.
“I’m very proud of the work Colin has done with her and the way Brett drove her tonight,” she said.
Meanwhile Heather had already made plans on how to spend the lucrative first prize cheque.
“It will buy a few bottles of champagne, we’re going to celebrate because it’s a different story now,” she said.
