A couple of unraced geldings, a former Tasmanian mare and a two-race winner coming back from a spell have all been added to Craig Rail’s Blackbook after promising trial performances in the last week.

Serengeti Sunrise (Margaret Lee), Yankee Boot Flat (Ron Wicks), Blackbird Miss (Kate Hargreaves) and Jennysfavourite (Kent Harpley) will all head to the races soon and should be followed on the back of eye-catching displays.

MARYBOROUGH 19/09/21

Trial 1: - SOHO BOLLINGER began quickly to find the lead, ran along at an even tempo and outclassed his rivals in the run to the finish. ROSARITO MISS trailed the leader throughout and held her ground in the straight. She didn’t peel to the outside at any stage but she was being driven along in the run to the finish so she wouldn’t have finished any closer. SCENE OF TERROR settled three back on the markers, moved to the outside on the home turn and couldn’t pick up in the straight. She finished in third position ahead of TELL NOBODY, which was last for the duration.

Trial 2: - BLACKBIRD MISS (Mach Three – Power Player 1.58.2, $19,938) trailed the leader, moved away from the inside on the home turn and was strong in the run to the finish. It was a good performance, particularly considering she is yet to make her debut and she was taking on proven winners. TRIPLE ZED settled four back on the markers, moved out four horses wide on the home turn and ran home strongly for second. DANCEFORME began very quickly and led clearly. He set up a genuine tempo and was run down over the latter stages. CLEM MCARDLE settled three back on the markers and came out three horses wide on the home turn. He ran home fairly well for fourth and will back up at Charlton on Monday, where he is a value hope. ARISTOCRAT CHESTER was slow out and was detached from the pack in the early stages. He continued to lose ground and finished a distant fifth. LORD ALPHA (Shadow Play – Table Games 2.5.4, $9,382) dropped back to the tail of the field in the early stages and was retired out of the trial.

BLACKBOOKER: - Blackbird Miss

Trial 3: - BRUTALLY HANDSOME is a smart type and was able to lead throughout. He set up a reasonable tempo and dashed home in a slick final half of 57.7 seconds to win effortlessly. WILLS WAY (Somebeachsomewhere – Annas Innocent 1.57.2, $14,298) settled three back on the markers and moved to the outside with 300m remaining. He chased hard for second and beat his other two rivals by a large margin. DULCIE OTOOLE (Rock N Roll Heaven - One Fellas Fancy 1.58.3, $30,738) finished third after trailing the leader throughout and SWEET EMMY LOU was last for the entire trip.

Trial 4: - MAORI MUSCLE (Muscle Hill – Maori Sunshine 2.3.2, $45,075) was without cover early, pushed forward to find the lead at the 1600m and was able to hold off his rivals to get the prize. He scored by a narrow margin but he did appear to have a few gears left. THEY CALL ME AL (Blitzthemcalder – Mia Equity) was three back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 800m and came out three horses wide on the home turn. He finished nicely for a close third ahead of GAELIC LAD (Blitzthemcalder – Gaelic Lass 1.58.9, $49,539), which trailed the leader for the last mile and used the sprint lane. MAJESTIC EM (Majestic Son – Heart Of Glass) broke stride at the start and lost approximately 15m. She was last in the first circuit, moved up without cover at the bell but couldn’t sustain the run and ended up being last of the four runners across the line.

Trial 5: - SOHO DOW JONES began very quickly to find the lead and ran along at a reasonable tempo then dashed home in a sizzling final half of 56.7 seconds to score by 30m. He was very impressive and continued on the winning trend from his latest win at the races. OUR ESCAPADE settled three back on the markers, moved out three horses wide on the home turn and finished well for a distant second. DOUBLE THE HUNTER settled last on the markers, moved into the death seat at the 1400m and kicked on quite well in the straight. EMER was last of the four runners across the line after enjoying a nice trail behind the leader. She will be at big odds for her first up performance at Horsham this afternoon.

Trial 6: - COLBY ART began very quickly to find the lead and backed off the tempo mid-race. He was able to sprint home best down the home straight and got the prize. YANKEE BOOT FLAT (Changeover – Fancy Falcon 1.59.1, $34,264) trailed the leader throughout and finished in second but it appeared that he was travelling like a winner. He never peeled away from the back of COLBY ART until the final 20m and really accelerated fast in the latter stages. JILLIBY JIVE (Western Terror – Jilliby Ruby 2.6.1, $10,519) settled three back on the markers and held her ground in the straight to finish in third position. JAXON BEACH (Somebeachsomewhere – Baraks Angel 1.57.4, $17,258) was last of the four runners throughout.

BLACKBOOKER: - Yankee Boot Flat

Trial 7: - IGNITING STRIDE began fast and was without cover early before pushing forward to find the lead with 1800m remaining. He took a trail at the 1500m mark and made a move approaching the home turn. He quickly dashed to the front and was able to score nicely. He is backing up at Charlton on Monday, where he appears to be a good winning chance. SHE SAILZ began quickly to lead, took a trail and got shuffled to three back on the markers. She came to the outside on the home turn and finished quickly for a game second. She returns from a spell at Maryborough on Wednesday, where she appears to be a good winning chance. EVERYSECONDCOUNTS was in the one out and one back trail in the early stages, moved into the death seat at the 1800m and led from the 1500m. He was headed on the home turn and ended up being in third position. He is also competing at Maryborough on Wednesday. PIESRIDINGSHOTGUN was five back on the markers early then was four back and finished fourth. JUST STELLA MAGIC was slow to begin and settled away from the bunch on the first turn. She finished ahead of JORDANS MATE, which settled midfield on the markers and was under pressure from the 500m mark. She backed up with a ninth at Geelong on Wednesday night. She is racing again at Melton on Tuesday night so she has had a busy week.

Trial 8: - THE PENNY DROPS settled four back on the markers and moved to the outside at the 700m mark. He got to the front when BIGTEDY MCCABE galloped in the back straight and extended his lead to win by a margin. He is taking on far stronger opposition in the Kilmore Trotters Cup this evening but usually steps away well from the standing start. CHARLIE WALKER settled three back on the markers and battled on for a distant second. He returns from a spell at Charlton on Monday, where he is not without a chance. SCAR led out then took cover at the 1300m mark. He was checked and galloped at the 600m but regained momentum to finish in third. He is backing up at Tabcorp Park, Melton on Tuesday evening. BIGTEDY MCCABE (Bad Boy Truscott – Left One Eye Out 2.5.3, $38,494) trailed the leader, moved away from the inside at the 1500m and was going to run to the lead but broke stride momentarily. He got going to run to the top but he galloped again in the back straight on the final occasion. CRAVACHE DOR (Orlando Vici – Muscles N Blues USA) broke stride at the start and was tailed off throughout. He made his debut at Melton on Thursday night, where he also galloped away but made up many lengths so he obviously has ability when he puts it altogether.

Trial 1: - BUDDY HINSON is out of the handy mare Dottie Hinson but broke stride on his debut at Wedderburn. He was able to win the trial over the qualifier HINT OF COURAGE (Courage Under Fire – Hint of Gold 2.1.9, $18,993) and DALLAS MIKI, which finished unplaced in two starts at his first preparation of racing, was last of the three runners to cross the line.

COBRAM 19/09/21

Trial 1: - SERENGETI SUNRISE (Somebeachsomewhere – Jo Louleonie 2.0.6, $30,650) did extremely well considering he was the only horse competing in the trial that hasn’t raced previously. He settled three back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 600m, raced keenly and came out three horses wide at the 400m. He wanted to hang in over the concluding stages but he won very nicely. DIAMOND ECLIPSE began smartly to find the lead, ran along at a reasonable tempo and kicked on well over the concluding stages to finish in second position. TEX GOES BANG settled down in last position, moved into the death seat at the 1100m and loomed alongside DIAMOND ECLPISE on the home turn. He peaked on his run in the latter stages and finished in a distant third with CORRYONG COOL being the last one home after trailing the leader. She backed up with a fifth at Cobram on Thursday afternoon after enjoying a nice run on the markers throughout.

BENDIGO 19/09/21

Trial 1: - SIXTY began smartly and was able to run to the lead shortly after the start. He wanted to race keenly mid-race and got away from his rivals over the latter stages. He was well graded in the trial considering he has a National Rating of 74 and his nearest rival had a rating of 54. WRITERS REIGN trailed the leader and finished a distant second. He was well ahead of OUR CHRISTIANO, which settled four back on the inside, moved to the outside at the 700m mark and finished in third position. HARD YARDS (Four Starzzz Shark – Lombo Luvbird) was three back on the markers and finished fourth with DURHAM MAC (Pacific Fella – Durham Lady) being in last position for the duration.

Trial 2: - NOTORIOUS JOE was four back on the markers, came out three horses wide at the 700m mark and finished off quickly to land the prize. MISS MORAINE began fast to find the lead and set up a slow tempo. She just couldn’t repel the challenge of NOTORIOUS JOE in the run to the finish. POCKET BLASTER settled three back on the markers, trailed the leader from the 700m and moved to the outside when leaving the back straight on the final occasion. He finished third with FRED NED (Metropolitan – Hazel Dawn 2.1.2, $13,685) being the last horse home after trailing the leader and yielding ground from just after the bell.

Trial 3: - LOLLIPOP (Somebeachsomewhere – Lucky Ha Ha 1.57.4, $6,693) continued her good run of form at the trials with another victory. She trailed the leader, pulled hard, moved away from the markers at the 600m and sustained a strong run to get the prize by a comfortable margin. ALIZA HILL (Racing Hill – Abstract Lady 1.57.4, $27,170) began quickly and tried to lead throughout. She set up a slow tempo and tried hard in the home straight. JERSEY SAM (Genuwine – River Reos 2.4.0, $2,250) was three back on the markers throughout and filled third spot. BLAZIN HEAVEN dropped back to last, broke stride at the 1700m and lost approximately 15m, tacked on and pulled hard. He moved to the one out and one back trail the 600m mark but failed to run on and was the last one to complete the course.

Trial 4: - KYVALLEY HOTSPUR began fast and ran to the lead shortly after the start. He ran along at a reasonable tempo and kicked well clear in the back straight on the final occasion. He sustained the run and scored impressively. SULTAN SASS was five back on the markers and moved into the one out and one back trail at the half mile marker. She came out three horses wide at the 400m mark, gave the winner a big start and finished off fast for a game second. JENNYSFAVOURITE ran a big race for a horse with a National Rating of 45 with the first two horses having a much higher rating (68 + 69). She broke at the start, tacked onto the group, came wide on the home turn and ran home well. LEOTARDANDLACE settled four back on the markers, moved into the death seat with 800m remaining and battled on fairly for fourth. LION HEART was fifth after trailing the leader throughout and BLIS VALLEY was the last horse across the line after being three back on the markers for the duration.

BLACKBOOKER: - Jennysfavourite

Trial 5: - SAN ANTONIA ROSE wanted to hang out a little at the start but was able to do enough to hold the lead. She set up a slow tempo and kicked on well after being challenged in the straight. She is racing at Maryborough on Wednesday afternoon but is competing against a strong field. SUNSUP settled last of the three runners, gained the back of the leader in the back straight and used the sprint lane. He made a lunge at SAN ANTONIA ROSE late but missed out by a narrow margin. TRUMPIT LIL trailed the leader but started to trot very roughly in the back straight and lost all chance, eventually easing out of the trial.

Trial 6: - WISH UPONA DREAM trailed the leader and moved to the outside with 500m remaining. She wanted to hang in a little down the front straight but she had the most momentum on the line and was able to get the prize. She backs up from a good draw at Melton on Tuesday night. ITS DIAMOND CREEK (Creatine – Singing Creek 2.0.1, $59,178) settled four back on the markers, moved through to trail the leader at the 300m and used the sprint lane to pick up second position. BLONDIES BLIS began quickly to find the lead, set up a very slow tempo and was run down in the home straight. MURTAGH KAI (Down Under Muscles – Subitize 2.9.7, $6,106) was three back on the markers and started to yield ground with 500m remaining. He beat home KYVALLEY HIHAT (Andover Hall – Kyvalley Kiss), which broke at the start and lost approximately 30m hence was last throughout. JENNYSFAVOURITE scored up behind the mobile after galloping away in trial four and was pulled out of the trial in the early stages.

Trial 7: - ZAREM bounced away quickly from the standing start and found the lead. He was always in complete control and was aided by his only rival MULBERRY PIE making an error with 900m remaining. He recorded reasonable time and won with plenty in reserve. He is competing at Kilmore this evening but has come up with a poor draw. JENNYSFAVOURITE capped off a busy day at the trials with a third appearance. She stepped away fairly, settled down in last position and was retired out of the trial shortly afterwards.

GEELONG 20/09/21

Trial 1: - IM ABOVE THE LAW began quickly to find the lead, was unchallenged from the start and raced away for an easy victory. He was never fully extended so it was a promising performance. MORE WANTED (Creatine – Muscle Ruby) trailed the leader, moved away from the inside at the quarter pole and held his own in straight for second. He went to the line under a strong hold and could have finished closer. He makes his debut at Melton on Tuesday night. MOJITO MADNESS was three back on the markers for most of the trip and held down third position. BERATINI (Andover Hall – Star Spangled Rama 2.4.6, $35,725) began in second but broke stride on the first turn and lost approximately 25m. She finished fourth and was able to beat home BACARDI SPIRIT (Bacardi Lindy – Maybelina 2.1.4, $37,958), which galloped 100m after the start, settled down last and lost more ground when he raced very roughly coming up to the bell lap.

Trial 2: - CARMY DAN began quickly and was able to find the lead shortly after the start. He set up a very slow tempo and had a good enough kick left at the finish to hold on and win. OUR SUMMER WIND finished in second position after trailing the leader and coming to the outside at the 300m mark. He is backing up at Horsham this afternoon and is also competing at Maryborough on Wednesday so he is in for a busy week. UPTONGIRL was three back on the markers, moved through to trail the leader on the home turn and used the sprint lane. She finished a close third with LASTING BOND being in fourth after being four back on the markers and being held up for a run over the concluding stages. He followed with an eighth at Cobram on Thursday afternoon. HAMMERS PEGASUS was last of the five runners throughout.

Trial 3: - FLIRTING was three back on the markers in the early stages and ended up being four back on the inside at the 1700m. She moved into the one out and one back trail with 700m remaining, came out three horses wide on the home turn and ran home best to get the prize. She has ability but has drawn on the outside of the front line at Maryborough on Wednesday afternoon. HIDDEN VALUE was without cover early, switched to the markers in third and moved into the death seat again at the 700m. He finished fourth ahead of the early leader MIRAMANEE, which shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. SHOOBEE GOTCHA settled five back on the markers, was placed under pressure at the 500m and faded late. She is backing up at Cranbourne on Sunday. SASSY SASSY (Modern Art – Queens Order) settled in sixth position, broke stride at the 1700m and lost 50m. She was retired out of the trial shortly afterwards.

Trial 4: - MONARCH STRIDE was without cover in the early stages, gained a one out and one back trail then was without cover again at the 1300m. He pushed forward to find the lead at the 1100m and was able to hold on to get the prize. He will return from a spell at Maryborough on Wednesday afternoon. SOVEREIGN TIGER settled in the running lane (1-2), ended up being in the one out and one back trail mid-race before being left stranded without cover when MONARCH STRIDE found the lead. He battled on well in the run to the finish to miss out by a narrow margin. He will appreciate switching back to the mobile start in his effort at Cranbourne on Sunday. AMOUR MATERNAL wanted to hang in on the first corner, settled four back on the inside before angling in behind SOVEREIGN TIGER. She switched back to the inside in the home straight but broke stride with 50m remaining. She held down third in front of MARIACHI, which began fast to lead, took a trail and ended up being three back on the markers. MARIACHI is competing at Maryborough on Wednesday afternoon. CMON CARL LEE settled in second last position, joined the running lane in the back straight, raced fiercely and finished in fifth spot. GEE CEE CALDER was in the one out and one back trail, came out three horses wide from the 1600m-1400m, found the lead at the 1300m mark then took cover shortly afterwards. DEAD SET MUSCLE trailed the leader early and got shuffled right back on the markers mid-race. He was the last one to complete the course.

Trial 5: - SAHARA SIROCCO began very quickly to lead on the first turn, took a trail at the 1600m then moved around to find the lead again shortly afterwards. He recorded a brilliant final half of 56.3 seconds and scored by a large margin. SEA DOUBLE UGRANT was without cover in the early stages, pushed forward to find the lead at the 1600m, took a trail at the 1400m and battled on fairly well for second. He is a former Tasmanian pacer and makes his Victorian debut at Kilmore this evening. IM A DENNY TOO settled last on the markers, moved up without cover at the 800m and finished a distant third. He is competing at Melton on Tuesday night. AUCKLAND RED led out, took a trail, got shuffled back on the markers and moved into the one out and one back trail before moving out three horses wide from the 600m. He raced greenly over the final stages and couldn’t make ground in the fast final sectionals.

Trial 6: - SUNDAYS SHADOW began well to trail the leader and used the sprint lane. He finished quickly and drew clear over the final 50m. TORO STRIDE settled down in last position, ended up being three back on the markers and moved to the outside with 500m remaining. He hit the lead in the straight but was run down over the concluding stages. ALDEBARAN DEMI attempted to lead throughout and finished third with HESALLMUSCLE (Muscle Hill – Lotalov 2.1.9, $81,389) being last across the line after settling in third, being relegated to last at the 1700m and yielding ground from the 700m.

PEDANTIC settled down last of the four runners and commenced a forward run at the 800m but locked wheels with BE A GOOD SCOUT shortly afterwards. He was able to regather momentum and finished in second position. He is competing at Horsham this afternoon and is backing up at Maryborough on Wednesday. BE A GOOD SCOUT settled three back on the inside and finished third. LITTLE WEDNESDAY trailed the leader but began losing ground with 500m remaining and was last of the four runners to cross the line.

Trial 8: - JUST BELIEVE began quickly to lead and set up a reasonable tempo. He was unchallenged from the start to the finish and won nicely. HAVE NO FEAR took the trail behind JUST BELIEVE and was never asked for a full effort in second position. NORMANDY BELLE settled down last of the trio, came to the outside in the straight but wanted to hang in over the latter stages. She wasn’t beaten by far in what was a handy field of three trotters to complete the card.

SHEPPARTON 21/09/21

Trial 1: - NATIONAL NEWS (Sportswriter – Motu Make A Splash) was very impressive in leading throughout at a Shepparton trial a week prior to delivering another trial fine display but this time when coming from off the speed. He settled fifth on the markers, gained a one out and one back trail at the 600m mark, moved out three horses wide approaching the home turn and accelerated beautifully once he balanced up in the straight. He will make his debut at Maryborough on Wednesday and should run a big race. PATSY VALENTINE was in second position early before progressing forward and finding the lead with 1800m remaining. She battled on well for a close second. TENNESSEA WALTZ led out, took a trail and used the sprint lane. He was running home well to miss out narrowly in a terrific finish. TENNESSEA WALTZ will compete against NATIONAL NEWS again at Maryborough on Wednesday. DANCE WITH SOMBODY (Somebeachsomewhere – Dancing With Daisy) was four back on the markers before moving into the death seat at the 600m mark. He finished in fourth with SHAKEN SANDS (Sunshine Beach – Maori Missile 1.58.8, $8,073) (3 back markers) being in fifth. CHANERO (Lombo Pocket Watch – Alcolism 1.58.0, $26,553) dropped back to be last of the six runners around the first corner and remained in that position for the duration.

Trial 2: - ANGSKI began well from the standing start to find the lead. He set up a very slow tempo mid-race and was able to hold off the late challenge from the pacer MILLION DOLLAR ART in the run to the finish. MILLION DOLLAR ART stood back off the mark by approximately 15m, stepped away fairly well and settled last of the four runners. He moved away from the inside at the quarter pole and continued to make ground without being fully extended. LOVE YOU GIRL (Love You – Spidergirl 1.56.8, $317,657) trailed the leader throughout and finished third ahead of JOHNNIE BE GOOD (3 back markers).

Trial 3: - IM BOBBY began well to settle four back on the markers. He moved through to trail the leader on the home turn, used the sprint lane and drove through to get the prize. BODYBUILDER (Creatine – Nomistakingpegasus 2.3.7, $26,870) settled three back on the inside, moved away from the markers on the home turn and tried hard for second. ALDEBARAN JETHRO began quickly to roll to the lead shortly after the start. He set up a slow speed and was run down in the home straight. MILLEE galloped away and lost approximately 80m in the early stages. She beat home KENYA KNOT (I’m Stately – Jades Pride), which also missed the start badly and settled down ten metres ahead of her at the start. STARLIGHT RUBY trailed the leader, pulled hard and came to the outside with 400m remaining. She quickly rolled into a fierce gallop and was still galloping across the line. She was the first past the post but was subsequently disqualified.

Trial 4: - EL BOSTON prepared for his performance at Charlton on Monday with an impressive victory over a strong field, where he led throughout. He is drawn off the second line on Monday but did trial well enough to suggest he is in with a chance. NOMORELYING trailed the leader, used the sprint lane and picked up some ground for second position. KEKOA settled last of the six runners, moved up without cover at the 700m, was forced out three horses wide from the 300m and was finishing off stoutly in second spot. SHARMEY was five back on the inside, trailed into the race behind KEKOA and was the widest runner into the straight. He finished well for third ahead of JANNALI, which was three back on the markers before moving away from the inside at the 300m mark.
