He ran third in his trial but should have won, says Craig Rail, and the new addition to the Trial File Blackbook can make amends at Tabcorp Park Melton tomorrow night.

Russley Rush caught the form analyst's eye this week and he'll be following the pole marker in the Gordon Rothacker Memorial Championship first heat at 7.50pm.

Russley Rush was one of three additions this week. Scroll to the bottom for the updated Blackbook.

TERANG 06/12/20

Trial 1: - DOUBLE HELIX settled three back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 700m and came out three horses wide at the 300m. He finished off best to defeat RAINBOWSNPEARLS (Rock N Roll Heaven – Soho Cannes 1.59.1, $115,282), which trailed the leader, moved away from the inside with 150m remaining and ran home well. ANGEL I AM was in third position after setting the speed and BERYLS GRIN (Grinfromeartoear – Panorama Wealth 1.58.4, $39,331) was last of the four runners to cross the line after racing in the death seat throughout.

Trial 2: - KEAYANG NINJA hasn’t started since breaking stride in the Redwood Classic but he took out the Homegrown Classic earlier in the year. He trailed the leader A JEWEL IN THE CROWN, came to the outside with 400m remaining and finished swiftly to win easily in an impressive display. A JEWEL IN THE CROWN held down second with ZEPHIANE running an eye-catching third after breaking stride at the start, settling last on the markers and spearing through along the sprint lane over the final stages. CELTIC CASH settled three back on the markers and began yielding ground in the back straight on the final occasion but was never seriously pushed at any stage.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.2            Final Half: - 60.2               Margins: - 15m, 1m

Trial 3: - KEAYANG DESTINY dashed to the lead in the early stages, backed off the speed mid-race and finished off in a slick final half of 56.6 seconds to get the prize over JILLIBY LORENZO, which trailed and came to the outside at the quarter pole. MELANNA BEACH dropped back to be last of the three runners early, pulled very hard mid-race and had nothing left at the finish.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.5            Final Half: - 56.6               Margins: - 1m, 8m

Trial 4: - JILLIBY SELWOOD (He’s Watching – Jilliby Olivia) is an unraced colt that was able to defeat proven winners so he obviously is worth following. He trailed the leader, came to the outside at the 400m mark and proved too good in the run to the finish. JILLIBY ADORE settled three back on the markers, came out three horses wide from the 150m and finished off well for second with the early leader GO JO JOLT dropping back to be last of the three runners across the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.1            Final Half: - 58.4               Margins: - 5m, 2m

BLACKBOOKER: - Jilliby Selwood

MARYBOROUGH 06/12/20

Trial 1: - COMANDANTE was able to dash across the field to find the lead shortly after the start. He was unchallenged from the start to the finish and he scored softly at the end. DYNAMIC DIESEL settled four back on the inside, moved away from the markers with 700m remaining and battled on well for second with HIDDEN FIRE being a distant third after trailing the leader throughout. RAGNA THOR was three back on the markers throughout and finished fourth with STRATEGIC STRIDE (Love You – Glory Stride) being at the tail of the field after galloping several times in running.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.4            Final Half: - 63.7               Margins: - 8m, 25m

Trial 2: - ISABELLA PRINCESS began well and was able to slot in behind the leader shortly after the start. She came away from the inside with 500m remaining and was able to dash home in slick final sectionals to get the prize. SOLESSEO MATUCA (A Rocknroll Dance – Princess Dilinger 1.58.2, $65,263) performed exceptionally well for a rising 2yo. He led, and set up a reasonable tempo then kicked on well late when challenged. He appears to be worth following but it is difficult to assess prior to the new season commencing on how talented the new season juveniles are going to be. BOLDYOU (Shadyshark Hanover – Glamazon) was without cover early, eased back to be last on the markers and moved away from the inside at the 350m mark. He was able to run into a distant third ahead of DECEPTIVE STRIDE (Captaintreacherous – Delightful Joy), which was three back on the markers for the majority of the journey.

Mile Rate: - 2.0.0            Final Half: - 56.8               Margins: - 1m, 30m

Trial 3: - NAMOSCAR won the third trial by a head margin but he should have won by a lot further. He settled four back on the markers, moved to the outside at the 600m mark, sprinted quickly and dashed to the lead but broke stride and lost approximately 20m approaching the home turn. He regathered momentum and was able to get up and score on the line. MICHAELS MENAME broke stride momentarily at the start, quickly gathered momentum and was able to drive through and lead. He pulled hard in the run and was overtaken by NAMOSCAR in the back straight but he was nearly able to claim the prize after NAMOSCAR’s error on the home turn. JORDANS MATE trailed the leader, moved to the outside with 250m remaining and finished third with IMA LOUIE TOUIE (Louey Louey Louey – Feng Shui 2.9.4, $10,480) being in fourth after being three back on the markers throughout. IMA LOUIE TOUIE is awkwardly drawn for his debut at Geelong on Tuesday night. TENSION SEEKER was last of the five runners throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.10.7          Final Half: - 60.5               Margins: - Head, 10m

Trial 4: - FINAL PEACE was able to get ready for her Super Series campaign with a strong victory over MAJOR MANBAR. She dropped back to be last of the five runners, moved into the death seat at the 1200m proved too strong in the run to the finish. She is drawn favourably in her Super Series heat this evening and should run a good race. MAJOR MANBAR was four back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 1200m, pulled hard and did well after coming out three horses wide turning for home and picking up ground in the straight. MINUSCULE was three back on the inside, angled out four horses wide on the home turn and finished on well for third in front of the early leader VALENTINA BRAVE. JOBELLS IMAGE trailed the leader but broke stride on the home turn and lost her chance.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.8            Final Half: - 2.3.8               Margins: - Not given

Trial 5: - SET ABLAZE (American Ideal – Smouldering Desire) speared to the lead shortly after the start, set up a slow speed and dashed home in a slick final 800m of 55.7 to win easily and without being extended. He is a very promising horse and it will be interesting to see how he shapes up in a heat of the Super Series at Shepparton on Sunday. BUZZ LIKA BEE (Betterthancheddar – Lady Watch) came out fast and trailed the leader going around the first corner. He held on well in quick final sectionals during the last lap and beat the remainder of the field easily. DREAM MAZE (Western Terror – Classy Dream 2.2.3, $3,375) is a close relation to three very smart horses in Classy Western, Classy Guy and The Gingerbreadman. She settled four back on the markers and ran into a distant third with RUBY WINGATE being fourth after being three back on the inside, coming away from the pegs at the 300m mark before hanging out on the home turn. MANBAR PRINCESS (Betterthancheddar – Korobeit Princess 2.2.7, $13,165) was without cover early, got restrained to last and remained at the back of the field thereafter.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.0            Final Half: - 55.7               Margins: - 10m, 15m

Trial 6: - INAUGURATE settled four back on the markers, moved into the death seat at the 600m and held on to score from a game WINGATE GUY, which had no luck early, restrained to last before working into the one out and one back trail and running home well at the finish. INAUGURATE is awkwardly drawn against a strong field at Maryborough on Monday. NEPHEW OF SONOKO was without cover early, pressed forward to find the lead at the 1700m mark and tried hard in the straight but couldn’t repel the challenge of the pacers. CAPTAIN SONADOR led out then took a trail behind NEPHEW OF SONOKO and finished in fourth position. WHITESOFTHEIREYES (Courage Under Fire – Getrichordietryin 1.56.3, $71,523) was three back on the inside and finished fifth ahead of SHARDY (Smiling Shard – Pondering), which broke stride in the score up and was tailed off throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.0            Final Half: - 59.9               Margins: - Head, 10m

Trial 7: - CELESTIALFRAGRANCE began very quickly and found the lead then backed off the tempo mid-race. She raced greenly in the final circuit but was able to dash home in fast final sectionals to score easily. She is racing in a strong heat of the Super Series, which includes the star filly Ladies in Red at Shepparton on Sunday and she is drawn very awkwardly. CALL ON ME (A Rocknroll Dance – Arts Image) settled 3 back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail at the bell and came out three horses wide from the 300m. She finished on well for second in front of SEACHANGE, which settled down in fourth and came out three horses wide from the bell. REFORMED (Modern Art – Nymeria) finished fourth after being three back on the markers for the duration and UNITED was the last one to greet the judge after landing a good trip behind the leader.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.8            Final Half: - 57.1               Margins: - 15m, 1m

Trial 8: - MAJOR BANKS showed good gate speed and was able lead all of the way. He was being challenged down the front straight but he was able to kick on strongly in the run to the finish. He is racing at Maryborough on Monday and appears to be a good winning chance. EXALTED FIGURE (Safari – Nakasaki Magoo 1.56.9, $47,343) settled down last of the five runners, moved away from the markers at the half mile marker, sprinted quickly down the back straight and tried hard over the concluding stages to go down narrowly. HES GONESKI began quickly and ended up trailing the leader. He used the sprint lane and picked up a bit of ground to finish a close third. THUMP was three back on the markers then one out and one back from the 500m. He finished fourth with ROXY ROYALE (3 back markers) being the last horse to cross the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.1            Final Half: - 58.8               Margins: - 1m, 1m

Trial 9: - KONAN is a National Ratings 77 assessed pacer and was taking on the trotters. He started from the handicap of 50m but he had many lengths on the mostly young trotters he was competing against and won easily. He moved around two runners to be third on the markers at the bell, came out three horses wide on the home turn and sprinted home quickly late. CHRISTMAS BABE trailed the leader, moved away from the inside on the home turn and tried hard for second with the early leader MAJOR MAX being in third position. CHRISTMAS BABE makes her Australian debut against a strong field from the standing start at Geelong on Tuesday night. GEE CEE CALDER (I’m Stately – Calder Image 2.6.1, $62,270) finished a distant fourth after being three back on the markers early and COULDDOWITHARAIN (Danny Bouchea – Lily May 2.2.6, $18,512) was four back on the markers for the majority of the trip and saw the field to be safely home.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.8            Final Half: - 61.1               Margins: - 10m, 15m

GEELONG 07/12/20

Trial 1: - Only two horses contested the opening trial on the program with MARIACHI getting the better of PEEL MY GRAPES over the concluding stages. PEEL MY GRAPES led and was trying to fend off MARIACHI but she started to get weary with 100m remaining and MARIACHI forged clear at the end. PEEL MY GRAPES returns from a spell in the opening race of the program at Geelong on Tuesday night.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.9            Final Half: - 63.1               Margin: - 10m

Trial 2: - SILENT REVERIE was able to zoom to the lead shortly after the start and was unchallenged from the outset. He had a nice lead turning for home and was able to hold on and win. VISIONARY (Orlando Vici – Commander Jewel 2.0.5, $61,686) settled last of the three runners, came to the outside on the home turn and finished off solidly late. It was a nice trial performance but he is meeting a tough field at Maryborough on Monday. WILCANNIA trailed the leader and was always going to run third in the home straight but unfortunately broke stride with only 50m remaining.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.9            Final Half: - 63.2               Margins: - 2.5m, 20m

Trial 3: - MAJOR EXCLUSIVE burst across the field to lead comfortably then set up a genuine tempo. He dashed well clear of his rivals in the back straight on the final occasion and kept on rolling to win by a large margin. ROMANY BROWN settled down in last position, moved around to be third on the markers in the back straight on the final occasion and came to the outside on the home turn. He was never going to catch MAJOR EXCLUSIVE by the time he peeled to the outside but he did stretch out nicely over the concluding stages. He will be looking to keep his good form going at Yarra Valley this afternoon, where he has drawn on the pole position. MAJALINER settled three back on the markers, moved around the tiring STEAL SOME TIME (Lombo Pocket Watch – Jillie Scot 2.1.1, $28,428) in the back straight and tried to chase MAJOR EXCLUSIVE. He ended up in third position and STEAL SOME TIME was last of the four after trailing the leader but she was facing a tough field for an unraced 3yo filly.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.8          Final Half: - 58.40    Margins: - 30m, 15m

Trial 4: - IMPERIAL WHIZ began quickly and was able to push to the lead shortly after the start. He set up a reasonable tempo and was able to score without being pushed out to the line but he was clearly the class runner being a National Ratings 95 assessed trotter. ELECTROJET was three back on the markers before finding the back of the leader shortly after the start. He came to the outside at the quarter pole and chased determinedly into second position. LEANNE LEEANN was three back on the markers for the majority of the trial and finished third. FORGOT TO REMEMBER began quickly to find the markers first, took a trail behind IMPERIAL WHIZ then galloped on the first turn. She got back trotting but galloped again in the run and she ended up finishing a distant last.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.1            Final Half: - 59.50    Margins: - 3m, 15m

BENDIGO 07/12/20

Trial 1: - All of the three trotters were able to step away safely albeit slowly from the standing start with TEETREETOMMY taking the lead from TRIXY NIXIE (Trixton – Starcus $55,576) with AZTEC INTI settling down last. AZTEC INTI came away from the markers with 300m remaining to chase but TEETREETOMMY had an easy run throughout and was able to hold the challenge comfortably and won with something in reserve. AZTEC INTI tried hard in the straight and TRIXY NIXIE wasn’t too far away at the end.

Mile Rate: - 2.10.3          Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - 2m, 7m

Trial 2: - SHEER MODERN dashed to the lead shortly after the start and enjoyed a good run throughout the middle stages. She had a good kick left at the finish and scored by three metres on the line. MANASSA SKY was a nice run in second. He settled sixth on the markers, moved up without cover from the 800m and chased hard. He angled in behind SHEER MODERN on the turn but came to the outside again in the final stages and kept on chipping away. He is racing at Maryborough on Monday and is a value hope on that trial performance. YOURSNMINE was four back on the markers throughout and came to the outside at the 500m mark. He worked into a distant third with REVA being in fourth after settling three back on the inside. SHAWAMI LASS was five back on the markers and remained in fifth ahead of TRAVELNPASTYOU, which trailed the leader and CARL MATTGREGOR was last of the seven runners throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.2            Final Half: - 57.0               Margins: - 3m, 10m

Trial 3: - KIEDIS was without cover early, pressured the leader and zoomed to the front with 1500m remaining. He kicked well clear before the home turn and was able to score nicely. He appears to be a strong chance at Yarra Valley this afternoon depending on the fitness level of Nostra Ideal. BEACH WRECK settled down last and came to the outside with 500m remaining. He got up to second turning out of the back straight and was picking up good ground on KIEDIS over the concluding stages. ROCKS ARNT PETS was four back on the markers and ran into third ahead of REALY UNDER FIRE, which came out quickly, trailed the leader then was shuffled to third on the markers. LEGENDS LAST went very quickly early to take the lead away from REALY UNDER FIRE, copped some pressure and eventually took a trail behind KIEDIS. He started to yield ground from the 400m mark and was the last one home.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.5          Final Half: - 57.5               Margins: - 7m, 8m

Trial 4: - SOEXTRA dropped back to be last of the five runners, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 800m and quickly put the result beyond doubt when he made his move. He jogged down to the line and won by a large margin. He should give a bit of a sight in a heat of the Super Series at Ballarat this evening. WHATA ROLLER began quickly to find the lead and enjoyed a good run mid-race. He was headed off by ANDREW SWAGGER turning out of the back straight but came again via the sprint lane and grabbed second on the line. ANDREW SWAGGER did trial very nicely for a horse with a National Rating of just 40. He settled fourth on the markers, moved into the death seat at the 800m mark and shot to the lead before peaking late. He is a big winning chance at Maryborough on Monday but the concern would be that he raced extremely roughly in the home straight when placed under pressure in that trial performance. ALWAYS A DUCHESS was three back on the markers and ended up being shuffled back to last in the back straight. She was able to pick up SPECULATOR, which yielded ground after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.0            Final Half: - 56.6               Margins: - 12m, Nose

Trial 5: - OZZIE PLAYBOY settled four back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 500m and finished off best out wide on the track to defeat TWISTED BLISS, which ended up being three back on the markers after a fast beginning. She came to the outside in front of OZZIE PLAYBOY, giving OZZIE PLAYBOY a good cart home. ONECROWDEDHOUR began quickly and led early before taking a trail. She switched back to the sprint lane in the final stages and ran through into third position. JITTERBUG ARDEN (A Rocknroll Dance – Fantastic Arden 2.0.3, $13,975) settled down in third position, dashed around to find the lead with 1700m remaining and was claimed in the latter stages. She makes her debut in the final event at Geelong on Tuesday night. MALAVA MISS (Shadow Play – Western Art 2.3.4, $2,255) was last of the five horses throughout and broke stride with 1300m remaining, virtually costing herself any chance of victory.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.5          Final Half: - 57.7               Margins: - 1.5m, 1m

Trial 6: - GIVEITATRY settled seventh on the inside, moved into the breeze with 300m remaining and was able to assert his superiority in the straight, dashing away to win easily and without being pushed. WENDYS WATCHING trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to finish in second position with SMOKE MY MOTOR running third after spearing to the lead shortly after the start. GIVEITATRY and WENDYS WATCHING are both contesting a heat of the Super Series at Shepparton on Sunday and SMOKE MY MOTOR will prove hard to beat in the opening race at Yarra Valley this afternoon. FOUR STAR SAINT broke stride in the score up, made up a lot of ground mid-race to tack onto the group and held on well for fourth. ROCKNROLL LADY (A Rocknroll Dance – Bonton Lady) was fourth on the markers but was a qualifier taking on a strong field and was battling a long way from home. She came in last of the five runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.2            Final Half: - 57.4               Margins: - 8m, 4m

Trial 7: - ALGORITHM (Great Success – Jumanji Franco) settled down last of the three runners, moved into the death seat at the 1100m and gradually pressed forward. She dropped in behind the leader IM JOSEPHINE approaching the home turn, went back to the sprint lane in the home straight and drove through to score. IM JOSPEHINE tried to lead all of the way and finished second with JESSICAS STORY being last of the three runners after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.15.3          Final Half: - 62.6               Margins: - 4.5m, 9m

Trial 8: - There were only three horses in the final trial but it was certainly entertaining. BULLION LADY put if a couple of rough strides at the start then took off as the mobile pulled away. She probably had a gear issue as she sprinted brilliantly in the first circuit establishing a lead of over 100m! She was escorted out wide on the track by the Clerk of the Course just after the bell and was retired out of the event. She is drawn awkwardly on the inside of the second line in the Matriarch Trot at Melton tomorrow night. QUAKE PROOF couldn’t go with BULLION LADY in the first lap but he looked good in the end, extending nicely to beat FAIRFIELD FLYER by a large margin. Considering QUAKE PROOF recorded a highly respectable mile rate of 2.1.9 and BULLION LADY was a huge margin in front of him at the bell, BULLION LADY must have run a scintillating time for her first lap.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.8            Final Half: - 61.4               Margins: - 120m, retired

SHEPPARTON 08/12/20

Trial 1: - SPENCER (Courage Under Fire – Seville Lady 1.59.8, $11,785) has been trialling nicely at Shepparton and was impressive after pushing forward out three horses wide to race without cover. He drew clear to win softly at the end from MARKLEIGH JEAN (Shadyshark Hanover – Markleigh Gina), which settled down last on the markers, moved into the running lane (1-2) and worked home well at the finish. COURAGEOUS LIFE (Courage Under Fire – Spring To Life 2.2.4, $1,688) attempted to lead all of the way and finished in third position with FIRST ADVENTURE (Mr Feelgood – Rock Me Gently) being in fourth after trailing the leader throughout. ROCKNDESIRE (Pet Rock – Desiring Bella 2.0.4, $17,172) was three back on the markers throughout and beat home ZEEHAN (Live Or Die – Under Wraps) (4 back markers) and SASSKI (Major Bronski – Sass And Bling) (5 back markers, 1-1).

Mile Rate: - 2.3.3            Final Half: - Not Given    Margins: - 4m, 5m

BLACKBOOKER: - Spencer

Trial 2: - THE RED MOON RISING was able to work to the lead shortly after the start and set up a slow tempo. He finished off in a quick final half and was able to win with something in reserve. He makes his Victorian debut at Geelong on Tuesday night and should perform well. LET’S DIG IT was three back on the markers before moving up without cover with 600m remaining. He wanted to race keenly but still had a good kick left at the finish and held on well for second. RUSSLEY RUSH was very unlucky and should have won the trial. He was four back on the markers, got held up for a run at a vital stage and motored home in the final 100m. He has drawn on the pole position in a heat of the Gordon Rothacker Memorial Championship at Melton tomorrow night and should prove hard to beat. MONASH trailed the leader and finished in fourth with THREE SUMMAS being fifth. He was five back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 600m but remained in fifth position. RATE HIGHLY was last of the six runners throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.2            Final Half: - 57.2               Margins: - 6m, 3m

BLACKBOOKER: - Russley Rush

Trial 3: - ARGY BARGY was able to progress forward and find the lead shortly after the start. He set up a moderate tempo mid-race and was able to fend off his rivals in the straight to win narrowly. JUSTCALLMEAZA trailed the leader, used the sprint lane and missed out by a narrow margin with ARRAPS finishing a close up third after coming out three horses wide from the one out and one back trail at the 300m mark. SMILEFORAWHILE (Grinfromeartoear – Montesian) was five back on the markers throughout and picked up fourth ahead of PIPPI, which was in the running lane (1-2) for most of the trip. FOREST FORCE settled four back on the markers and held his ground late to beat home MELPARK BUTCH (without cover) and JANG PEL (last on the markers). JANG PEL pulled hard in the run, never peeled to the outside and went to the line hard held so he should have finished closer.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.1            Final Half: - 59.6               Margins: - Neck, Head

Trial 4: - MINNIE DIVA (Great Success – Sailors Sweetheart 2.2.0, $12,030) led early, took a trail and found the lead again at the 900m when the front runner TANGANYIKA ran off the track. She dashed clear with 400m remaining and was able to land the prize. EVIES DRESSMAKER settled down fifth on the markers, came out three horses wide at the 400m mark and finished off strongly to pick up second position. TORIKINA PRINCE settled four back on the markers, came out three horses wide at the 400m mark and finished third with SHELLEYBEACH (Somebeachsomewhere – Fake Art 1.59.9, $30,739) being fourth after settling three back on the markers and getting held up for a run at a vital stage. TANGANYIKA was driven very aggressively to work to the front at the 1600m mark, hung out badly in the turn out of the front straight with 900m remaining and was forced to race without cover for the remainder of the trip. JOES WATCHING broke stride at the start, settled last on the markers and was always in a rearward position.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.9            Final Half: - 61.7                Margins: - 6m, 12m

Trial 5: - DALTON showed good gate speed and was able to lead throughout to take out the last event on the program. He got away in the straight to win clearly from BUDDY HINSON (Majestic Son – Dottie Hinson 2.3.5, $48,295), which settled three back on the markers and moved to the outside with 700m remaining. BOOZER (Bacardi Lindy – Jingling Silver 1.58.4, $191,322) began quickly and was able to find the back of the leader. He finished in third with YANKEE LOVER (Love You – Yankee Princess 2.4.8, $24,588) being in fourth position. ABBIE (Majestic Son – Aldebaran Peggy) trotted away slowly and settled approximately 20m behind the pack. She was in fifth position throughout and COMANDANTE was on his worst behaviour having galloped away at the start then several times in the first lap before being retired out of the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.1            Final Half: - 62.0               Margins: - 8m, 6m
