Trial File: New Zealand import Carla Pixie flys into the Blackbook

New Zealand import Carla Pixie has made her way to Australia and into the Blackbook of Harness Racing Victoria form guru Craig Rail.

The Brent Lilley-trained mare only had three runs in New Zealand before making the trip over.

“She recorded slow time in her trial success, but she did appear to be impressive as she was the only juvenile competing in the field and she went to the line with plenty in reserve.” Rail said.

Rail also added Miss Ari and Jilliby Ballerini to his Blackbook.

TRIAL REPORT 272

SHEPPARTON 04/07/24

Trial 1: – HES CHARLIES ANGEL prepared for his return to racing at Melton tomorrow night with a convincing victory. He led out then took cover behind PERFECT STRIDE NZ before finishing off strongly. He has remained unbeaten in three trials since returning from Tasmania so he should have a lot of confidence leading into his first up display. PERFECT STRIDE NZ finished second after setting up a strong speed and will also be backing up at Melton tomorrow night. SWIFT WATCH NZ settled four back on the inside and wanted to race fiercely. He came to the outside at the 500m and tried hard for third. He had the lowest National Rating (58) in the trial and the two horses that finished ahead of him are both genuine Metropolitan performers so his effort was sound. He should prove hard to beat at Shepparton on Tuesday night. ROCKNROLL KISS picked up late ground from five back on the markers to finish in fourth. She is competing at Wagga this afternoon.

Mile Rate: – 1.58.4                       Last Half: – 56.0                                           Margins: – 3m, 15m

Trial 2: – IM EASY ON THE EYE raced without cover, progressed forward to find the lead at the 1700m and dominated her rivals to win the trial easily. She backed up at Bendigo on Wednesday night and was very impressive in her runaway victory. SHAKEN SANDS finished in second position after leading out then taking cover with COOGEE doing his best work late from six back on the markers to fill third spot.

Mile Rate: – 2.2.1                          Last Half: – 59.1                                           Margins: – 12m, 12m

Trial 3: – TA KALCHE settled six back on the markers, moved up without cover at the 1200m and proved to be too strong in the run to the finish. He continues to trial extremely well and will be hard to beat when he first steps out onto the race track. CLIVES GIRL trailed the leader, used the sprint lane and accelerated nicely into second position. She is racing at Wagga this afternoon and should be competitive based on her trial effort. NELLS ALL BLISS showed good gate speed to lead, backed off the tempo mid-race and finished a close up third. She backed up with a strong third at Bendigo on Wednesday night.

Mile Rate: – 2.4.6                          Last Half: – 58.3                                           Margins: – 1m, Neck

MARYBOROUGH 07/07/24

Trial 1: – Only two horses contested the open class trial and OUR ULTIMATE GRACY NZ was successful after leading throughout. She finished off in solid final sectionals with the last quarter being recorded in 28.6 seconds. MISTER JIMARINGLE raced in the trail throughout and came to the outside on the home turn. He held his ground over the concluding stages and finished a length from the winner.

Mile Rate: – 2.3.9                          Last Half: – 57.9                                           Margin: – 3m

Trial 3: – YAWOMA is an unraced juvenile pacer for trainer Ross Fiscalini and was able to lead throughout to win his qualifying trial. He is by A Rocknroll Dance out of Dublin Street (1.57.2, $19,090) and is the first foal. He defeated ARE WEASLEY, which was forced to race without cover throughout, with DESTINY KEPT being in third after settling three back on the inside before moving into the one out and one back trail.

Mile Rate: – 2.4.6                          Last Half: – 59.8                                           Margins: – 3m, Neck

Trial 5: – AMERICAN ALLI was clearly the class runner of the trial and was able to win softly. He settled five back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the bell and came out three horses wide on the home turn. SKADI finished second after trailing the leader and moving up without cover at the bell. OPTIMAL settled three back on the markers, moved through to trail the leader at the bell, raced roughly at the 400m then finished off well out wide on the track for a handy third. He backed up to win at longer odds at Ballarat on Thursday night.

Mile Rate: – 2.6.4                          Last Half: – 58.4                                           Margins: – 2m, Head

KYABRAM 07/07/24

Trial 1: – UPRIGHT hasn’t started since finishing ninth at Echuca in December. He boasts a career best mile rate of 1.54.0 and has won five races so he is talented pacer when at his peak. He was able to win the Kyabram trial over WINSUM BELLA, which was stood down to trial after finishing unplaced at Swan Hill on June 19. THREEHUNDREDCASH hasn’t raced since April 2023 and finished in third ahead of LITTLE RAIN CLOUD.

Mile Rate: – 2.6.5                          Last Half: – 62.8                                           Margins: – 2m, 1m

CRANBOURNE 07/07/24

Trial 1: – SAHARA BREEZE settled last of the four horses, came to the outside at the 400m mark and finished off solidly to win untouched. She hasn’t started since finishing sixth in the Victoria Oaks and she has drawn badly for her race track return at Melton tomorrow night but she has looked very sharp at the trials. THE CHANCER attempted to lead all of the way and finished a close up second in reasonable time. He is competing at Melton tonight, where he takes on the boom pacer High Above and he will have a busy week as he is also scheduled to compete at Cranbourne on Sunday. KARTIARE did very well to finish a close up third considering he has a National Rating of 59 and the two horses that finished ahead of him are both genuine Metropolitan performers. He trailed the leader and accelerated very nicely at the end.

Mile Rate: – 1.58.1                       Last Half: – 57.0                                           Margins: – 1m, Nose

Trial 2: – MISS ARI is a juvenile filly for the Gary and Debbie Quinlan combination. She is by Art Major out of Miss Deville (1.58.8, $53,232), which makes her related to six winners including the top performers Heavens Showgirl (1.50.6) and Knights Templar (1.50.4) so she has the breeding to become a handy performer. She trailed the leader HARD YARDS, came to the outside at the 500m and quickly hit the lead. She seemed to switch off when she hit the front but she got the job done, seemingly with plenty in hand. HARD YARDS held down second and VALERIEE was last of the three runners throughout.

Mile Rate: – 2.6.3                          Last Half: – 60.3                                           Margins: – 2m, 10m

TERANG 09/07/24

Trial 1: – JILLIBY BALLERINI is an unraced filly by Majestic Son out of Shesasundon (2.0.4, $25,400), making her a close relation to the classy mare Shesawish (1.57.1). She gained a nice trail behind the leader but there was a lot to like about the way she hit the line so she is worth following. KEAYANG GUCCI settled three back on the markers and worked home stylishly for second without being pushed. The early leader PATRICIA EM was last of the three runners to cross the line.

Mile Rate: – 2.10.3                       Last Half: – 59.4                                           Margins: – 3m, 3m

BLACKBOOKER: – Jilliby Ballerini

Trial 3: – CHICAGO BART won the Queensland Gold Bullion Final in April and hasn’t started since finishing seventh in the Breeders Classic at Albion Park in May. He was clearly the class runner of the trial and asserted his superiority at the end, winning by twenty metres after leading throughout. JILLIBY SORRENTO settled last of the four runners and came wide on the home turn. She worked into second with MR TEDDY (3 back on the markers) being the third horse across the line.

Mile Rate: – 2.0.1                          Last Half: – 58.0                                           Margins: – 20m, head

MELTON ENTERTAINMENT PARK 09/07/24

MELTON ENTERTAINMENT PARK 09/07/24

Trial 1: – CARLA PIXIE NZ has had three starts in New Zealand for three seconds at Addington and she has recently joined trainer Brent Lilley. She recorded slow time in her trial success but she did appear to be impressive as she was the only juvenile competing in the field and she went to the line with plenty in reserve albeit putting in a couple of rough strides just past the post. She stepped away nicely from the standing start to trail the leader and came to the outside with 300m remaining. SUNNYCOAST SECRET settled three back on the inside, moved through to trail the leader on the home turn and worked through into second placing. The early leader CLAUDYS SECRET was the third horse across the line and will be backing up at Melton this evening.

Mile Rate: – 2.10.0                       Last Half: – 60.45                         Margins: – 2m, 3m

BLACKBOOKER: – Carla Pixie NZ

Trial 2: – CAPTAIN BELLASARIO trailed the leader HITTHEROADJACK NZ, came to the outside with 600m remaining and showed a terrific turn of speed to win the trial comfortably. He dashed home in a sizzling final quarter of 26.45 seconds so it was an impressive effort. HITTHEROADJACK NZ held down second position and went well enough to be competitive at Cranbourne on Sunday with MAJOR ROLL being last of the three runners throughout.

Mile Rate: – 1.59.4                       Last Half: – 54.08                         Margins: – 5.5m, 7.5m

Trial 3: – HESITATE has been freshened since his latest second in the Sapling Stakes. He appeared to be right on top of his game in the trial with an emphatic victory over RAINBOWSEND. He trailed the leader, came to the outside on the home turn and sprinted powerfully at the end to win clearly. RAINBOWSEND settled three back on the markers and tried hard for second and MISTER MACEDON ran home well from four back on the markers to fill third position. MISTER MACEDON will be competing at Cranbourne on Sunday.

Mile Rate: – 1.56.4                       Last Half: – 56.68                         Margins: – 7m, Neck

Trial 5: – HOLD MY HAT DOUG produced a strong front running display to win the fifth event. He led out then took cover behind his stable mate VENUS NZ before working forward to find the lead with a mile remaining. He continued to run along at a strong tempo and ran his rivals ragged. MAORI FRANKLIN was four back on the markers for the majority of the journey before moving into the death seat with 700m remaining. He battled on well for second with KYVALLEY MARIACHI doing a good job after breaking stride in the score up to finish in third position.

Last Mile: – 2.2.8                           Last Half: – 62.43                         Margins: – 3m, Neck

Trial 7: – ALL THAT REMAINS trailed the leader for the majority of the journey and commenced her winning run with 600m remaining. She had a tussle with the early leader JACK SPRAT but she was able to get the better of that trotter in the latter stages so it was a tidy display. AARDIES PEAK NZ settled four back on the markers, came away from the inside at the 400m and made ground for a game third. She is backing up at Melton tomorrow night.

Mile Rate: – 2.4.0                          Last Half: – 58.22                         Margins: – 2m, 3m

Trial 8: – DEUCE COUPE NZ trailed the leader and waited for the sprint lane. He accelerated nicely at the end to gain the prize. He has battled for form recently but the trial success should give him some confidence and he is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward.  SEATHESTARS is a juvenile pacer and was taking on older horses so he put in a tidy display to finish second. He settled four back on the markers and came to the outside with 700m remaining before battling on well in the run to the finish. TRINITYS DELIGHT was five back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 700m mark and finished off well for a close up third. She is backing up at Cranbourne on Sunday night. GOODTIME MACH settled three back on the markers, came to the outside on the home turn and was doing his best work at the end to be the fourth horse across the line.

Mile Rate: – 1.57.2                       Last Half: – 58.83                         Margins: – ½ head, ½ head

Trial 9: – LADY VICI produced five straight victories at the end of her last preparation and she returns to racing at Melton tomorrow night. She began quickly to find the lead and was able to record a comfortable victory, running to the line untouched in her trial so she is obviously somewhere near her peak form. KYVALLEY AMANDA was four back on the markers and moved to the outside with 800m remaining. She battled on strongly for second with USED TO BE A MAID finishing off solidly from three back on the markers to be in third. QUEEN OF QUEBEC came from last of the seven runners and was doing her best work at the end to be fourth across the line.

Mile Rate: – 2.4.6                          Last Half: – 58.33                         Margins: – 6m, 6m

She was able to win the trial over her stable WICKED HANGOVER, which is by McWicked out of Vampish Hanover 1.56.6, $48,188), by two metres and the pair finished well clear of FAMOUS LABEL. Trainer Aaron Dunn produced all three trial winners at Hamilton with the smart juvenile FORTY LOVE defeating the open class pacer HOT DEAL in the opening event and the juvenile trotter ARTIGAS was successful in trial three.

Mile Rate: – 2.6.6                          Last Half: – 60.8                                           Margin: – ½ head
