Trial File: Ruby has a Dream showing at the Melton trials

Harness Racing Victoria form guru Craig Rail has added three new additions to his blackbook including the Chris Lang and Sonia Maher-trained Rubys Dream.

“Rubys Dream is a nicely bred filly being by Tactical Landing out of Dream Interest. She was able to win the trial by a large margin,” Rail said.

Alongside Rubys Dream Rail added Another Puddin and Maninky Moonshine to his file.

SHEPPARTON 22/08/24

Trial 2: – CHEYELLA was unplaced in her two attempts last campaign and was sent for another spell. She prepared for her return effort at Melton on Saturday night with a trial victory over NEW YORKER, where she led throughout and scored very comfortably. NEW YORKER was second after trailing the leader throughout and the top former juvenile trotter THE LOCOMOTIVE settled three back on the markers before coming away from the inside on the home turn and was third across the line. NEW YORKER is returning from a break at Melton tomorrow night.

Trial 3: – CROCODILE SOCKS has had a prosperous campaign with two victories and prepared for his effort in a heat of the Super Series with a runaway victory after progressing forward to find the lead at the 1700m. He dominated at the end and scored by a large margin. He backed up in a heat of the Super Series at Bendigo on Wednesday night and finished in sixth behind Storms Collide. FEAR THE POWER finished in second position after leading out then taking cover and GUARANTEED END was the third horse across the line from her position of being four back on the markers. GUARANTEED END backed up with a seventh in a heat of the Super Series at Bendigo on Wednesday night.

BACCHUS MARSH 24/08/24

Trial 1: – ANOTHER PUDDIN is a beautifully bred filly being by Somebeachsomewhere out of the top mare La Machane (1.54.6, $335,268). Her only start was in December and she has joins trainer Alison Alford. She recorded slick time and scored by a large margin so she is worth following. BETTES BLUE VIOLET finished in second position and was well clear of the third placed EARS THE BOSS.

BLACKBOOKER: – Another Puddin

Trial 3: – NEW SHUFFLE continued his good trial form for trainer Philip Chircop with a comfortable victory in handy time. He backed up at Bendigo on Wednesday night and finished third in a strong heat of the Super Series so he has returned from a break in peak form. YANKEE RAIN finished in second position and was well clear of the third placed VIVA STORM.

Trial 5: – LADY VICI won five races in a row at the end of her last preparation and is preparing for a return to the track. She hasn’t raced since April but she has had several trial performances and was able to win the fifth event from the handy juvenile trotter PROHIBITED GRACE, which has only had one start for a victory in the Nutrien Classic. NUCLEAR ATTITUDE finished in third ahead of the pacer LAZENBY and both horses have been nominated for the meeting at Terang on Monday afternoon.

MARYBOROUGH 25/08/24

Trial 1: – IM SHADOW BOXER hasn’t raced since being unplaced at Bendigo in February but he is the winner of 18 races and over $200,000 in Stakes. He stormed along the sprint lane to win the opening trial over LUDACROUS, which is returning from a Queensland campaign with her latest fifth being in the Group 1 The Golden Girl. She finished a close up second in handy time after trying to lead throughout and is competing in a heat of the Super Series at Melton this evening.

Trial 5: – BLUE MIKI is a speedy maiden that has been placed four times to date. He recorded handy time in his narrow trial success over LEONARD, which is an unraced gelding by Vincent out of the race winning mare Ideal Velocity. BLUE MIKI trailed the leader early, moved around to lead at the 1600m mark and held off LEONARD, which finished off well from three back on the markers. CLEM MCARDLE finished in third position after being four back on the markers and coming to the outside at the 500m mark. He is backing up at Shepparton on Tuesday night. LADYS IN HEAVEN was last of the four runners to complete the course after leading out then taking cover.

ECHUCA 25/08/24

Trial 1: – ROCKSTAR LEO was beaten by a long way at his first start since December but he was able to build up some confidence with a trial victory over the unraced filly LOOK AWAY, which is by Betterthancheddar out of Pretty Interest. He worked forward at the start and took the lead away from LOOK AWAY before holding on in the run to the finish. MAXBECA was four back on the markers and finished a distant third in front of COVERED KYLIE (3 back markers).  ROCKSTAR LEO and COVERED KYLIE are both scheduled to compete at Shepparton on Tuesday night.

Trial 3: – TWILIGHT BEACH and UPRIGHT were able to dead heat for first in handy time with UPRIGHT setting the speed throughout and TWILIGHT BEACH drawing level on the line after sitting in the trail. TWILIGHT BEACH hasn’t raced since June and UPRIGHT is out of Pretty Interest so he is closely related to Look Away, which finished second in the opening trial. UPRIGHT is racing at Wagga this afternoon.

BENDIGO 26/08/24

Trial 3: – VINCENT GRANGE is resuming since December at Mildura this afternoon but he prepared for his performance with a victory at Bendigo. He settled four back on the inside, moved up without cover in the back straight and hit the lead on the home turn. MANINKY MOONSHINE is a juvenile pacer that has only started once to date and that effort was at Mildura in May. He settled three back on the inside, was held up for a run at a vital stage and motored along the sprint lane for an eye-catching second. OCEAN FRONT led out then took cover and finished in third position with ALBY PRIDDY being the fourth horse across the line after setting the speed for the majority of the journey.

BLACKBOOKER: – Maninky Moonshine

Trial 5: – Only two horses contested the open class trial but it was a quality affair with MAJOR FIRE NZ recording fast time in defeating DANGEROUS. MAJOR FIRE NZ led throughout but DANGEROUS sat behind the leader all of the way and went to the line with plenty in reserve without coming to the outside at any stage. DANGEROUS is backing up at Menangle tomorrow night, where he is taking on the impressive performer Captain Hammerhead.

Trial 6: – EASTBRO JESSE was a runaway winner and recorded a slick final quarter of 28.0 seconds so it was an impressive all of the way performance. SUNSUP has been freshened up since his latest second in early July and was able to trot into second position from his position of being four back on the markers. THE FEENY FAVORITE was a half head away in third position after trailing the leader throughout with RIVIERA ROSE (5 back markers) being the fourth horse across the line. RIVIERA ROSE will make her debut for trainer Zac Steenhuis at Terang on Monday afternoon.

MELTON ENTERTAINMENT PARK 27/08/24

Trial 1: – CATCH A WAVE performed below expectations at his first run since a successful Western Australian campaign but he prepared for his second up performance on Saturday night with a trial victory in fast time. He trailed behind the leader and his stable mate TANGO TARA throughout and sprinted home sharply. CAPTAIN RAVISHING hasn’t raced since finishing second in the Breeders Crown in November but the boom pacer was able to finish in second ahead of the Italian Cup winner TANGO TARA NZ after settling last of the three runners and finishing off strongly without being fully extended.

Trial 2: – ALL THAT REMAINS has had a prosperous campaign thus far and was able to keep his momentum going with a victory over the smart juvenile trotter KEAYANG KURKI. He was three horses wide early, progressed forward to find the lead at the 1600m mark and held off his rivals to win nicely. KEAYANG KURKI settled five back on the inside, moved to the outside at the 300m and worked home stylishly for an eye-catching second. HIGHPOINT finished in third position in preparation for his effort at Melton this evening after pushing forward to find the lead early before taking cover behind ALL THAT REMAINS.

Mile Rate: – 2.3.5                            Last Half: – 60.15              Margins: – 1.5m, 4.5m

Trial 3: – HES A MEISTER NZ hasn’t raced since May but he has been performing nicely at the trials and was able to defeat LOUIE LOU I NZ by a narrow margin. He worked past LOUIE LOU I to find the lead in the early stages and was able to hold on to win by a head. MOOPS finished a distant third after settling three back on the markers and finished ahead of MOST TRIUMPHANT, which was last of the quartet throughout.

Trial 4: – EXALTED has been trotting in good form and finished third against strong opposition on Saturday night. She was stood down to trial after causing a false start in that performance and was able to score nicely against the pacers to re-qualify after leading throughout in handy time. GIVE DAVE A WAVE finished in second ahead of his first up performance at Melton this evening. He was five back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 500m mark and came out three horses wide on the home turn. TRINITYS DELIGHT settled last of the five runners, sprinted quickly down the back straight and battled on okay for a distant third ahead of KYVALLEY ALLEYCAT, which trailed the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: – 2.2.1                            Last Half: – 57.12              Margins: – ½ head, 29m

Trial 5: – The outstanding trotter CALLMETHEBREEZE FRA is looking good for his return at Melton tomorrow night and was able to win his trial over OLLIVICI NZ, which is also performing well at the trials. CALLMETHEBREEZE was three back on the markers, moved into the death seat with 600m remaining and won with something in reserve. OLLIVICI NZ followed behind CALLMETHEBREEZE throughout and was doing his best work at the end. He is also competing at Melton tomorrow night. ROCKINWITHATTITUDE finished a close up third after trailing the leader TOUGH LOVE and using the sprint lane with TOUGH LOVE being in fourth. ARCEE PHOENIX was last throughout in the quality field but he was never asked for an effort at any stage.

Trial 8: – RUBYS DREAM is a nicely bred filly being by Tactical Landing out of Dream Interest. She was able to win the trial by a large margin over DALEY WATERS with KYVALLEY MARIACHI being the third horse across the line. RUBYS DREAM settled three back on the markers, moved into the death seat at the 800m and was very impressive at the end. DALEY WATERS attempted to lead throughout and KYVALLEY MARIACHI sat in the trail for the duration.
