Former star filly Sweet Louise is back at the trials and ready to impress at the races according to Craig Rail, who has added her to his Blackbook.

Trained by Phil Chircop, the daughter of Sweet Lou was beaten as a short-priced favourite in the Breeders Crown Series 3YO Fillies Final of 2020 and raced just once after that defeat on December 11.

Rail was taken by the trial performance on Monday at Geelong, where she hit the line hard for second.

Other Blackbook entries this week include John Tormey-trained gelding Miss Artikulate and Russell Jack’s unraced colt Justify.

SHEPPARTON 18/11/21

Trial 1: - NO MOTIVE began fast and was able to roll to the lead shortly after the start. She ran along at a genuine tempo and was untouched going to the line so it was an impressive display. She backed up at Shepparton on Wednesday night and finished fifth behind Cheez in fast time. ROARFORROSCOE (Betterthancheddar – Sayalittleprayer) was caught without cover in the early stages and progressed forward before finding the back of the leader at the mile marker. He did a good job for second and should race well for his debut performance at Cranbourne on Sunday. KILLARA JUGGERNAUT settled down last of the six runners in the early stages, moved up without cover at the bell and battled on well in the straight to finish third. He backed up at Kilmore on Thursday and finished a close up fourth after enduring a tough run from the outside of the second row. RACING DREAM was behind the leader early then ended up being three back on the markers with 1600m remaining. He went to the line under a strong hold and never peeled off the back of KILLARA JUGGERNAUT in the straight so he should have finished closer. HARTNETT was four back on the markers for most of the trip and finished ahead of CHEROKEE JAC (America Ideal – Little Red Cloud 1.52.0, $170,042), which raced very greenly at the start, eased to be fifth on the markers and gained a one out and one back trail at the bell.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.4           Last Half: - 58.8                Margins: - 4m, Neck

Trial 2: - AFFAIRE DE COVER began quickly and worked to the front 150m after the start. He then ran along at a rapid rate and had his rivals off the bit a long way from home. He continued to run along and was able to score by a large margin. He backed up with a fourth placed effort in the Breeders Crown Silver event at Bendigo on Tuesday night. HES A HAMMER began quickly to find the markers first then took cover. He was chasing the tearaway leader throughout and held down second. He beat the remainder of the field by 40m so it was a good performance. He worked to the front shortly after the start but faded into sixth at his effort at Kilmore on Thursday. FLINGANDWINGIT was fifth on the markers for the majority of the journey and by the time he made his move, the leading pair were a long way ahead. He did find the line well despite being beaten by a long way. KENYA KNOT (I’m Stately – Jades Pride) settled three back on the pegs and beat home the nicely bred trotter PESCO POLLO (Love You – Cold Sister USA 1.57.3, $262,321), which settled one position behind him. ABBIE galloped at the start so she lost her chance and SONNUMBERONE (Majestic Son – Onlyonewoman 2.2.6, $55,550) was fifth into the first turn but angled to the outside and was retired from the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.1             Last Half: - 58.9                Margins: - 50m, 40m

Trial 3: - JUSTIFY (Always B Miki – Jazzam 1.53.6, $231,415) began quickly to lead and raced very greenly throughout. It didn’t appear as though he was switched on for the entire journey but his ability got him to the line to win by a comfortable margin. He is a beautifully bred colt and should be improved by the experience so he should be hard to beat on debut at Cranbourne on Sunday. ALL SO SASSY (Shadow Play – Sassy Seelster 2.4.6, $2,402) trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to finish in second position. She made her debut at Kilmore on Thursday and finished in ninth position. BIG BAD OSSIE (Life Sign – Trulyawork Of Art USA) was a very nice run in third. He settled down last of the five runners, came to the outside in the straight and worked to the line nicely without being pushed. LIKAVEEEIGHT was forced to race without cover for the entire journey and was the last one to complete the course.

Mile Rate: - 2.0.8             Last Half: - 58.2                Margins: - 4m, 3m

BLACKBOOKER: - Justify

Trial 4: - MAX DELIGHT began fast and dashed across to find the lead shortly after the start. He ran along at a genuine tempo and raced away from his rivals to win emphatically. It was a good confidence building effort for his performance in the first round of heats of the Inter Dominion Championship at Menangle on Saturday night. HI MANAMEISJEFF began fast and angled across to trail the leader. He pulled hard throughout and didn’t bother to chase the open class pacer MAX DELIGHT but he did make sure to stay ahead of his other two rivals. For a horse with a National Rating of 56, it was a very good effort and he must be considered as a winning chance at Cranbourne on Sunday. SHOSHONE BRAVE settled three back on the inside and finished third with JOONIOR BROWN being the last one home after settling at the rear, coming to the outside and looking to be a chance of finishing second on the home turn before peaking late. JOONIOR BROWN is competing at Cranbourne on Sunday.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.9           Last Half: - 57.0                Margins: - 40m, 3m

TERANG 21/11/21

Trial 1: - RUBINS PLIGHT (Western Terror – Im Wrongly Accused 1.58.5, $36,917) began very quickly to find the lead and rolled along at an even tempo. He was very strong at the finish and raced to a very easy victory so he looks to have plenty of ability. He makes his debut in a maiden event at Hamilton on Monday and he should go well but it is no ordinary maiden field with several handy runners engaged. BANKSOFTHEMURRAY (Bettor’s Delight – Maudie 1.54.6, $105,108) trailed the leader before coming to the outside on the home turn. He was able to finish second ahead of IDEAL GLORY (American Ideal – Unique Desire), which trailed him throughout. CHARLIES HEIR (Cullens Hope – Currents Delight 2.1.9, $6,888) raced without cover and started to yield ground with 600m remaining. SASSY SASSY (Modern Art – Queens Order) settled last of the group, broke stride at the half mile marker and was tailed off for the remainder of the journey.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.9           Last Half: - 58.4                Margins: - 15m, 2m

Trial 2: - The field remained in the same order for the entire journey with ME PAT MALONE leading from the pacer JACKIERABBIT with ISITMEANDYOU (Love You – Wannabeamaori) being last of the three runners. ME PAT MALONE was clearly superior on the day after going to the line untouched to win by six metres. JACKIERABBIT is scheduled to compete at Hamilton on Monday.

Mile Rate: 2.5.0               Last Half: - 59.4                Margins: - 6m, 15m

Trial 3: - DEMON DELIGHT dropped back to last early then moved up without cover from the 1200m mark. He was allowed to stride a long way from home and was given a good hit-out, winning the trial by 30m but his National Rating was 50 points superior to any of his rivals in the trial so he appeared to be a handicapping certainty. He makes his return to racing in the Westburn Grant Free For All at Melton tomorrow night. REGAL REGGAE was a good run in second place. She was caught without cover, restrained to be three back on the inside and was inconvenienced by the tiring THE SUSPECT at the 600m. She came to the outside and chased determinedly. ELLI JOH finished third after setting the speed and THE SUSPECT dropped back to last after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.5             Last Half: - 57.5                Margins: - 30m, 15m

KYABRAM 21/11/21

Trial 1: - TASMA FLASH hasn’t raced since a seventh at Echuca in December but he was able to take out the opening trial on the program by a large margin. The Daniel Jack prepared qualifier ALTA BEDFORD (Alta Christiano – Gem Of Reiby 1.56.3, $47,312) finished in second position and finished ahead of another unraced pacer in UNFORBIDDEN (Roll With Joe – The Mistral), which is prepared by Simon Turnbull.

Mile Rate: - 2.7.2             Last Half: - 60.2                Margins: - 20m, 10m

Trial 2: - Only two horses contested the final trial with MY TIME TO SHINE, which hasn’t started since a fifth at Bathurst in June, defeating ROYAL BLOOD. Two versions of Royal Blood can be found on the Harness Website and they are a New Zealand bred mare by Great Bingen foaled in 1938 and an Australian bred mare by Hilarious Way foaled in 1985 so the horse that performed in the trial obviously has a name with slightly different spelling to what has been printed on the results.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.3             Last Half: - 62.2                Margin: - 15m

MARYBOROUGH  21/11/21

Trial 1: - STINGOFAWASP began well and settled in third position. She came to the outside with 400m remaining and was able to assert her superiority in the run to the finish to win by an increasing margin of twelve metres. She is racing at Maryborough on Friday and is a very good chance. HESANAVENGER (Kvintet Avenger – Gay Truscott) trailed the leader and came to the outside with 600m remaining. He hit the lead approaching the home turn but couldn’t withstand the challenge of STINGOFAWASP at the end. EBONYS AVENGER settled down in a distant sixth and made up a lot of ground for a handy third. GOODGIRLSAVENGER set the speed and was run down with 300m remaining. She battled away to finish a distant fourth and followed with a second placed effort behind Kyvalley Paint at Kilmore on Thursday. BLITZER I HOPE (Blitzthemcalder – Uncertain Temper) was five back on the markers and finished fifth. The other pair BUCKLES and WILLS MAVERICK (Louey Louey Louey – Rani Rose 2.4.6, $38,325) both made errors and finished second last and last respectively. BUCKLES was fourth early before breaking stride at the 1600m and WILLS MAVERICK was tailed off from the start.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.9             Last Half: - 61.7                Margins: - 12m, 20m

Trial 2: - MY DARLING DEVINE (Betterthancheddar – Komaru 1.57.3, $23,640) settled three back on the markers, switched to the sprint lane and drove through to win by a narrow margin. SPORTSSEAL was able to run to the top shortly after the start, backed off the tempo mid-race and was kicking on well in the run to the finish but was nosed out on the line. HELLO I TEA trailed the leader, came to the outside approaching the home turn and finished a close third. STAR PUPIL settled in the back half of the field and was seventh at the bell. He came out wide on the track approaching the home turn and finished in third. THE INTERCEPTOR moved up into the one out and one back trail approaching the bell but wanted to race fiercely. He was left stranded without cover for the final 700m of the trial and was fifth past the post. PAIGETHEHURRIKANE settled four back on the inside and moved up without cover at the bell. She was starting to yield ground with 700m remaining and eased out wider on the track. SAMURAIS SURPRISE (Red Samurai – Bio Kiss) settled down in last position, raced greenly and contacted the sulky of the horse in front hence breaking stride with 1300m remaining. He beat home MISS DAPHNE (Julius Caesar – Miss Dilly 1.57.4, $33,068), which settled down in fifth position but broke stride in the back straight on the final occasion.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.9             Last Half: - 61.7                Margins: - ½ Head, ½ Head

Trial 3: - EXCLUSIVE DANCER (Bettors Delight – Pole Dancer 1.56.4, $186,352) trailed the leader early before being three back on the markers. He came to the outside with 600m remaining and was able to get the prize in a blanket finish. He is scheduled to make his debut at Hamilton on Monday afternoon. MALAVA MISS (Shadow Play – Western Art 2.3.4, $2,255) was five back on the markers and was the widest runner in the home straight. She ran home strongly and just failed to pick up EXCLUSIVE DANCER but would have won in another stride or two. VALKYRIE settled four back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 600m and finished well for a close third. LENNY TEE led out then took a trail and finished fourth via the sprint lane. PARTYWITHMACH raced without cover and wanted to race fiercely so he progressed forward to find the lead. He continued to pull hard, which left him vulnerable at the finish but he wasn’t beaten by far. OSCAR BRAVO settled down in last position and was three back on the inside approaching the home turn. He was the last horse to cross the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.7             Last Half: - 60.2                Margins: - ½ Head, ½ Head

Trial 4: - DULCIE OTOOLE (Rock N Roll Heaven – One Fellas Fancy 1.58.3, $30,738) began quickly to find the lead and backed off the tempo mid-race. She finished off in a slick final half of 57.1 and raced away at the finish so it was a very tidy display. She is set down to make her debut at Hamilton on Monday and has ability but it is quite a strong field. VAPAR BRENDA (Betterthancheddar – Christa 1.58.3, $28,897) trailed the leader and came to the outside with 700m remaining. She tried hard but lost touch with DULCIE OTOOLE at the end. LITTLEBLABBAMOUTH (Tell All – Turbo Elly 1.57.1, $21,948) was last of the three runners throughout and had a tendency to hang in so she lost ground when the pace increased in the final circuit.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.6             Last Half: - 57.1                Margins: - 12m, 30m

Trial 5: - ROCK PHONE is a pacer and was taking on the trotters so he had no trouble in leading throughout. He set up a slow temp and was untouched going to the line. JESSICAS STORY trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to finish second, narrowly in front of ALLANON, which settled four back on the pegs and came to the outside with 600m remaining. SURPRISE TO ME was three back on the markers throughout and finished fourth. CRONK was five back on the inside, moved up without cover and moved into the one out and one back trail on the home turn. He beat home MAJOR MAX, which broke stride at the start and was always detached from the pack. CRONK is competing against the maiden class at Ballarat this evening.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.9             Last Half: - 60.5                Margins: - 1m, Head

CRANBOURNE 21/11/21

Trial 1: - ARGGGHHH began well but wasn’t going to head off CLASSY COUNTESS at the start so he was restrained to be third on the inside. He moved away from the pegs at the 400m and sprinted sharply to find the lead before the home turn. He coasted down to the line to score effortlessly. CLASSY COUNTESS finished second after setting a reasonable speed and FLIGHT OFFICER was third after trailing the leader and coming to the outside on the home turn. CLASSY COUNTESS ran a very sharp race for third at Melton on Wednesday after working very hard to find a prominent position in the early stages. ONEHANDONEBOUNCE broke stride in the score up and missed away by approximately 20m. He wanted to hang in on the corners and remained in last position for the entire trip.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.7             Last Half: - 58.9                Margins: - 15m, 7m

Trial 2: - ETON ROCK began quickly to find the lead and outclassed his rivals to win easily. He was able to stretch out nicely in the final 200m, despite being not fully extended in the run to the finish. He is competing at Cranbourne on Sunday and is not without a chance. CHRISKEN KIOSK trailed the leader and dropped off approaching the bell but regathered momentum and came to the outside at the 600m mark. He momentarily went with ETON ROCK but found the pacer to be too slick and was beaten into a distant second at the end. DEVIL OF A SMILE broke at the start and lost approximately 50m. He did pick up a lot of ground in the backstraight on the final occasion but paced roughly again over the latter stages and ended up in third spot. CINKARI got away fairly well but broke stride 100m after the start and was tailed off for the remainder of the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.1             Last Half: - 59.1                Margins: - 30m, 23m

BENDIGO 21/11/21

She sustained the run and drew away from her rivals to win impressively. HARTS LAST began quickly and dashed to the lead on the first turn. She set up a genuine tempo and kicked on well. She was no match for TWISTED BLISS but she beat her rivals by a large distance and she appears to be hard to beat at Maryborough this afternoon. ABBIE LINCOLN settled behind the leader and finished a distant third with SKIPPERS SWAN SONG being in fourth after trailing her throughout. JOHNNYS CASH broke stride in the score up and was out of position at the start by approximately 10m. Mile Rate: - 2.0.8             Last Half: - 57.7                Margins: - 4m, 45m

Trial 2: - MISTER ARTIKULATE began quickly to find the lead then took cover. He peeled away from the markers with 600m remaining and dashed to the front at the quarter pole. He kept on rolling to the line and seemed to win with something reserve so it was an impressive display. He is competing at Shepparton on Tuesday and must be considered as a winning chance. ITZ BILLY HILLIS settled four back on the markers and was the first horse to make a move in the back straight on the final occasion. He quickly gained the one out and one back trail behind MISTER ARTIKULATE and battled on fairly well for a distant second. NIKITA ADELE was without cover early before pushing forward to find the lead at the 1700m. She was headed at the 300m but battled on to finish third. PINNACLE HOPE was three back on the markers and finished fourth ahead of ULANI, which settled down in last position, moved to the outside at the 400m but couldn’t pick up in the straight.

BLACKBOOKER: - Mister Artikulate

Trial 3: - BELLA LUCY commenced from the second line in the small field of four horses and settled three back on the markers. She moved into the one out and one back trail approaching the home turn and ran to the lead in the straight before holding off the late closing HATEITWHENYOURRITE. HATEITWHENYOURRITE finished an unlucky second. She trailed the leader and was held up for a run at a vital stage before angling to the outside and running home strongly late. She is returning from a spell at Shepparton on Tuesday night. JAY BEE FLEX dropped back to be last of the four runners, moved away from the inside with 500m remaining and worked to the front before the home turn. She was run down in the straight and ended up finishing third with the early leader JENNYSFAVOURITE being in fourth after racing very fiercely during the middle stages of the event. JENNYSFAVOURITE is competing at Shepparton on Tuesday night but is poorly drawn on the second row.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.5             Last Half: - 61.9                Margins: - 2m, 4m

ROCKNFURY was fourth to begin, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 700m mark and came out three horses wide at the quarter pole. She broke stride shortly afterwards and lost all chance. He broke stride at Swan Hill on Thursday night and finished at the tail of the field. ASK NO QUESTIONS trailed the leader and used the sprint lane. He drove through late and almost drew level, missing out by the barest of margins. It is fair to say that both the winner and the runner up had something in reserve at the finish but like ENDSIN A PARTY, ASK NO QUESTIONS also broke stride in his effort on Thursday. ALDEBARAN DAPHNE (Aldebaran Eagle – Aldebaran Daisy 2.0.2, $39,099) broke at the start and lost approximately 60m. She was able to tack onto the field mid-race but galloped again at the 500m mark. QUITE CONTRARY performed nicely in second after beginning quickly to lead and rolling along at a genuine tempo. PENNIES FOLLOWING settled three back on the markers and lost ground at the quarter pole but picked up nicely in the straight to run into third. AUCKLAND LASS was without cover for the duration and was able to beat home ELIZABETHAN ERA, which was in the one out and one back trail, and TWO IN TENTS (Artspeak – The Whitney 2.3.2, $11,135) (4 back markers, 1-2 at 1200m) was the last horse across the line.
