TERANG 01/02/20
Trial 1: – Trainer Michael Stanley produced three juveniles in the opening trial and they filled the Trifecta positions. SOHO ALMASI (Mach Three – Fususi 1.59.2, $180,305) is a beautifully bred filly and Stanley took the drive on her, which is always a good lead for future reference. She dashed home in a final quarter of 28.2 seconds to get the prize. SOHO MAIDEN LANE (Four Starzzz Shark – Soho Cannes 1.59.1, $115,282) finished in second position with SOHO LANIKAI (Somebeachsomewhere – Obahma Joy 1.53.2, $180,618) finishing in third spot. The Matthew Craven trained SURF ACE (Somebeachsomewhere – Henin Hardenne 2.3.2, $7,983) finished last of the four runners.

Trial 2: – JILLIBY RHYTHM (A Rocknroll Dance – Jilliby Ruby 2.6.1, $10,519) was the only unraced horse contesting the second trial and was able to land the prize over SURFSUP TIGERPIE, which obviously produced a better effort in second, with LEICA BUDDY finishing in third position. MARKS JOY filled fourth position ahead of the three years old trotter DOUBLE HELIX.
Mile Rate: – 2.1.8 Final Quarter: – 30.1 Margins: – Head, 8m
Trial 3: – It was obviously a good battle down the straight between the Margaret Lee trained pair KEAYANG LIBERTY and JILLIBY MADONNA, which dead-heated for first. Both horses haven’t started since June with KEAYANG LIBERTY’s last performance being in the Breeders Challenge Final at Menangle. JILLIBY MADONNA boasts the impressive strike rate of ten wins from just twenty-one starts. SHANWAY finished a large distance away in the field of three runners.
Mile Rate: – 2.0.2 Final Half: – 56.1 Margins: – Dead Heat, 60m
Trial 4: – MISS WHAT USAIN hasn’t raced since being unplaced in a semi-final of the Breeders Crown in August. She boasted good form in Victoria before a failed Sydney campaign then returned for the Breeders Crown and being spelled after that series. She took out the final trial from LEICA GEM with WEERROOK BUDDY (Shadyshark Hanover – Tartan Dynasty) being in third position. SARA INGOT, which was stood down to trial after galloping at Stawell last outing, finished last of the four runners.
Mile Rate: – 2.4.9 Final Half: – 61.7 Margins: – 3m, 7m
KYABRAM 02/02/20

He scored by a neck over LEGENDS LAST with the unraced juvenile SARGEANT MAJOR (Art Major – I’m Sassi) finishing in third position and KARAS GIFT came in last of the four runners.
Mile Rate: – 2.8.1 Final Half: – 61.9 Margins: – Neck, 30m
Trial 2: – MA KATIE is a speedy filly and was able to secure her maiden success at Bendigo in December. She comfortably took out the second trial from ROSALEE DOT COM. MISS METRO, which dragged a flat tyre when on debut at Wangaratta, finished in third spot from SPIDER DUBAR, which has trialled numerous times recently.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.0 Final Half: – 63.3 Margins: – 10m, 10m
Trial 3: – DALLAS FRANCO has ability when he puts it altogether and he was able to defeat the handy type SHOSHONE BRAVE. That pair were well clear of the others headed by SPECIAL DREAM. The former Tasmanian THIRLSTANE KING, which has been unplaced in three local runs, finished fourth ahead of OLLIE AND BROCK.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.2 Final Half: – 60.0 Margins: – 5m, 20m
MARYBOROUGH 02/02/20
Trial 1: – It was only a field of two runners in the opening trial where SULTAN FELLA shot to the front from barrier two with ATHLONE content to be trailing. SULTAN FELLA quickened the pace sharply at the quarter pole and left ATHLONE flat footed. In the final 200m, ATHLONE didn’t make or lose any ground.
Mile Rate: – 2.3.2 Final Half: – 59.3 Margin: – 8m
Trial 2: – MYRTLE VALE started from the second line and progressed forward in the early stages. She ran to the front with 1700m remaining and was able to hold on and win the trial narrowly. QUALITY SUNSET settled in the one out and one back trail, peeled out three horses wide before the home turn and finished on well for a close second. Both the winner and the second horse appeared to have something in reserve at the finish. OUR IVY led out then took a trail behind the eventual winner. She finished a distant third and rolled into a gallop right on the post. ARRJAYS TRAPPER settled three back on the markers and finished fourth ahead of CEEJAYS SUCCESS (1-2) and QUAKER MAKER (Quaker Jet – Gay Truscott) (death seat). RAGNA THOR finished last after galloping in the score up and losing valuable ground. He chased hard to tack on at the 1200m mark, was out three horses wide momentarily before racing greenly in the running lane and dropping out late.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.8 Final Half: – 61.0 Margins: – Short head, 20m
BLACKBOOKER: – Quality Sunset
Trial 3: – DELAROSE was able to lead from the pole position and set up a moderate tempo. She held off the challenge of GLENGARRIFF in the straight to win by a narrow margin. GLENGARRIFF settled three back on the markers and came to the outside with 600m remaining. He chased hard but just couldn’t peg back the winner. DARK CLOUD settled four back on the markers, followed GLENGARRIFF until the home turn and switched back to the inside to use the sprint lane in the straight. She held her ground in the straight to be in third. SARAHALEONIE BOW made an error at the start and lost approximately 15m. She coasted around after that and wasn’t really extended at any stage. SHIPS SUCCESS dropped out after trailing the leader and finished fifth. SPEEDWAY QUEEN began quickly but galloped 50m after the start and lost a lot of ground. COULD IT BE ME (Shadow Play – Phoebes Grin) made several errors and was tailed off throughout.
Mile Rate: – 2.5.3 Final Half: – 61.6 Margins: – Head, 6m
Trial 4: – BONAVISTA BOY began nicely but couldn’t head off RAMSEYS HOPE and dropped in behind to trail the leader. He moved to the outside on the home turn and produced a good finish to win and with something in reserve. RAMSEYS HOPE tried to lead throughout but couldn’t withstand the challenge of BONAVISTA BOY. He did beat the remainder of the field by a good margin however. ROUGH CUT was three back on the markers throughout and beat home DICKIE MACRAY (Shadyshark Hanover – Macray Amore), which moved to the death seat from last at the 700m with COLBY ART (Betterthancheddar – Cullens Queen 1.59.8, $14,061) (4 back markers) coming in last of the five runners.
Mile Rate: – 2.4.0 Final Half: – 59.0 Margins: – 2m, 20m (approximately)
Trial 5: – SURBITON HARBREAK began quickly but couldn’t lead in the early stages and angled in behind the leader MORE THAN A WOMAN (BG’s Folly – Iza Precious Lass), which held the inside advantage. He used the sprint lane and ambled through to win the trial without being fully extended. MORE THAN A WOMAN kicked on well for a narrow second and METRO MAN, which also tried to lead early and ended up without cover, finished in third. SIMPLY HEAVENLY (Rock N Roll Heaven – Machabiba 1.56.8, $60,525) was one out and one back for the majority of the trial and finished ahead of WINGATE GUY (Union Guy – Alberts Belle) (3 back markers).
Mile Rate: – 2.2.9 Final Half: – 59.6 Margins: – Neck, 10m

CHER AMI, which settled down last of the three runners and trailed the leader over the final stages, held her ground late for third.
Mile Rate: – 2.14.7 Final Half: – 63.0 Margins: – Neck, 6m
Trial 7: – YOUR NICKED started from the handicap of 20m and settled down three back on the markers. He came to the outside with 600m remaining and quickly moved up to join the leader THE GIRLS GOTFLAIR. He asserted his superiority late and scored by two metres on the line. THE GIRLS GOTFLAIR jumped into second position but quickly moved around to find the front with 1800m remaining. She finished second with SUN OF SONOKO ending up in third spot. He settled down last of the four, followed YOUR NICKED throughout and went to the line under his own steam. SURBITON ARMISTICE led out then took cover but galloped with 250m remaining and lost all chance.
Mile Rate: – 2.10.5 Final Half: – 59.9 Margins: – 2m, 6m
GEELONG 03/02/20
Trial 1: – SUPER ZECK started from the big handicap of 60m and gradually made ground in the first circuit, tacking on with 1100m remaining. He moved away from the markers in the back straight on the final occasion and jogged up on the outside to win easily. He went to the line under a strong grip. OFORTUNA (Majestic Son – Fortunate Phoenix) pushed past WILCANNIA (Andover Hall – Wheels To Go) to find the lead early. She set up a slow tempo and finished second with WILCANNIA being in third after receiving every chance.
Mile Rate: – 2.11.8 Final Half: – 62.8 Margins: – 2m, 5m
Trial 2: – BORN TO ROCKNROLL settled four back on the inside and moved up without cover from the 700m mark. He got the better of the early leader BEACH GARDEN turning for home and was able to win softly. BEACH GARDEN kicked on fairly well for second after enjoying a nice run in front and TOUGH CALL followed inside runs from three back on the markers to finish in third position. BE MAJOR THREAT trailed the leader, raced keenly in the back straight and came to the outside on the home turn but only held his ground in the latter stages. He finished fourth ahead of MAJOR TIMES, which followed up behind BORN TO ROCKNROLL for the entire journey.
Mile Rate: – 1.59.2 Final Half: – 57.3 Margins: – 3m, 3m
Trial 3: – ILLAWONG STARDUST was very impressive in leading all of the way. She led comfortably but she shot clear in the straight to win by a big margin and she was never extended at any stage. Her manners let her down last season but she could be in for a good campaign. ELECTROJET appeared to have her chance after racing behind the leader throughout and finishing second but there were a couple of handy performers that finished behind her. DARING ANGEL settled three back on the markers and moved into the death seat at the bell. She finished third ahead of ROBLEN DANCER, which settled five back on the markers and moved into the one out and one back trail at the bell. MAJESTIC JEWEL (4 back markers/ 3 back markers) was fifth ahead of GUNSLINGER (7 back markers), WHOSE ME MUM (6 back markers) (Angus Hall – Susuwe 2.6.6, $15,791) and MEYDAN (Andover Hall – Showmethemaori , which galloped away.
Mile Rate: – 2.4.9 Final Half: – 59.9 Margins: – 15m, Nose
BLACKBOOKER: – Illawong Stardust
Trial 4: – LIGHTNING LANA was able to lead all of the way and won comfortably over her stable mates ABOUTTIME and LOOKING FABULOUS. ABOUTTIME trailed the leader throughout and made little impression down the straight where LOOKING FABULOUS settled sixth on the markers before moving into the breeze momentarily at the 700m mark and finding cover behind SPORTS MAGIC. SPORTS MAGIC ended up in fourth position after settling three back on the markers and moving into the death seat at the 500m mark. CONFUSIONANDDELAY was very slow away from barrier one and settled four back on the inside. She beat home QUEEN OF DIAMONDS, which was second last on the markers throughout.
Mile Rate: – 2.3.7 Final Half: – 57.8 Margins: – 3m, 8m
Trial 5: – SOHO BOLLINGER (Bettors Delight – Soho Champagne 2.6.3, $8,172) pushed forward to find the lead and raced greenly, particularly when hearing the chimes of the bell. He appeared to be in trouble of defeat down the straight but he kicked on well. He appears to be a strong staying type and might be worth following. SOHO BRANDENBURG (Bettors Delight – Soho Berlin 1.56.4, $69,770) trailed his stable mate throughout and used the sprint lane in the straight. He loomed as a winning threat but SOHO BOLLINGER kicked on strongly. FLYING ART (Art Major – Flying McPocket 1.54.8, $34,522) was last of the three runners, moved up without cover from the 500m mark but wasn’t asked to do too much down the home straight.
Mile Rate: – 2.2.1 Final Half: – 59.7 Margins: – 1/2head, 5m
BLACKBOOKER: – Soho Bollinger
Trial 6: – IDEAL CONQUEST burned to the lead in the early stages and copped plenty of pressure from THE JET PLAYER in the back straight on the first occasion. She raced to a clear lead with 500m remaining and sustained the run to win very strongly. DEEDENUTO was without cover momentarily at the start before dropping back to the markers (5th) then was without cover again in the back straight on the final occasion before gaining a one out and one back trail shortly afterwards. He chased determinedly but couldn’t peg back his stable mate in the run to the judge. SMILE LYLE finished in third position after initially trailing the leader before ending up three back on the inside. He moved away from the markers in the back straight when DEEDENUTO made his move then he boxed on well in the run to the finish. THE JET PLAYER settled back in the field but wanted to race keenly so he was allowed to stride and had a decent crack for the lead early. He was then able to angle in behind the leader but he tired in the end to run a distant fourth. OUR SUMMER WIND was four back on the markers for the majority of the trip and finished ahead of NOSTRA VILLA (6 back markers) and TWO TIMES BETTOR (5 back markers). JACKS COMMAND missed the start by a large margin and lost all chance.
Mile Rate: – 2.0.4 Final Half: – 57.5 Margins: – 2m, 6m
Trial 7: – SOHO SINATRA settled down in fourth position and was able to work into the one out and one back trail. He made a quick dash from the 600m mark to hit the lead turning out of the back straight and sustained the run to score nicely. NAI HARN BAY (Somebeachsomewhere – Bring Her Back) ran a nice second. He settled second last (6 back markers, 1-2) before peeling out wide and sprinting up to second on the home turn. He put in a couple of rough strides in the initial stages of the front straight but held his ground nicely in the run to the finish. PRELIMINARY (A Rocknroll Dance – Penultimate) attempted to lead throughout but was collared in the back straight by SOHO SINATRA. He kicked on well once headed and finished third ahead of HES IDEAL (American Ideal – Punchline 1.54.2, $84,499), which came from last and was the widest runner into the home straight before running home well without being extended. BETTERTHANFLYHIGH (Betterthancheddar – Mazzas Delight) settled three back on the markers and finished fifth ahead of MARCYS STAR (Falcon Seelster – La Bella Ruby), which sat without cover for the majority of the journey and TYABB WONDER (Mr Feelgood – Ezy Lady 2.1.1, $15,165) was last after trailing the leader throughout.
Mile Rate: – 2.3.9 Final Half: – 58.5 Margins: – 5m, 1m
Trial 8: – I AM PEGASUS took charge as the mobile moved away from the field and pulled her way to the lead. She raced fiercely for the majority of the trial but was still able to win comfortably. ME PAT MALONE settled four back on the markers and manoeuvred away from the inside and out wide on the track at the 500m mark. He sustained a good run to pick up second. ALWAYS READY settled three back on the inside, switched back to the sprint lane and finished fast for an eye-catching third. LEANNE LEEANN also trialled well as she was one out and one back, got held up for a run when ME PAT MALONE made his move then finished off nicely once she moved to the outside. MEET MICHAELANGELO raced without cover and finished fifth in front of WINNIE COOPER, which trailed the leader. ILLAWONG BYRON galloped away and missed the start by almost one hundred metres. He made up an enormous amount of ground to tack onto the group in the back straight on the final occasion but the effort took a toll on him late.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.8 Final Half: – 62.0 Margins: – 3m, 1m
BLACKBOOKER: – Always Ready
Trial 9: – PRADASON trailed the leader BEALE STREET and showed a good turn of speed in the final 100m to finish off best and get the prize. BEALE STREET finished second and probably lacks acceleration so he will be suited when the tempo is more genuine. MISS DANGERFIELD settled last on the markers but never left the inside and got a lovely run through to finish third. CELEBRITY CHEF settled three back on the inside and moved into the breeze with 600m remaining. He finished fourth in front of TA FAILTE ROTE, which travelled behind CELEBRITY CHEF all of the way but was struggling prior to the home turn.
Mile Rate: – 2.2.4 Final Half: – 57.4 Margins: – 2m, 6m
Trial 10: – YIANNI is now with trainer Emma Stewart after formerly being prepared by Amanda Turnbull. He was able to lead throughout and dashed home in a very quick final half on a night where fast times were hard to come by. ROCK ON SHADOW finished second after trailing the leader throughout and holding on well at the finish. In fact, the field remained in the same order throughout with GHOSTLY SILENCE being third in front of SAPPHO and STUCKFAST.
Mile Rate: – 2.2.0 Final Half: – 56.0 Margins: – 8m, 25m
KILMORE 04/02/20
Trial 1: – ANYWHERE HUGO was able to lead throughout in the standing start event for the open class trotters where all three runners were safely into stride. He enjoyed a nice run throughout and sprinted up the straight too quickly. INTO THE UNKNOWN trailed ANYWHERE HUGO throughout and battled on well for second and was picking up a metre or two on the line. JUST ANYTHING settled down third and lost ground on the leading duo approaching the home turn but wasn’t really being pushed over the final stages.
Mile Rate: – 2.8.1 Final Half: – 58.8 Margins: – 2m, 40m
Trial 2: – KARDESLER is a former New Zealander for trainer Kima Frenning, which was impressive. He settled down in second, ended up being last of the three from the 1500m mark and zoomed around the outside to win extremely well. His assessment on the trial results have him as a National Ratings 40 and if that is right, he will be a good bet first up but he is the winner of six races and it wasn’t too far back in his form where he beat a strong field across the Tasman. ATLANTAS settled down last of the three runners, circled into the lead at the 1500m and tried hard to for second. PEARLS FOR TASH led out then took a trail and finished last of the three competitive horses. BEACH BABE NIKKY refused to score up and failed to complete the course.
Mile Rate: – 2.2.6 Final Half: – 60.0 Margins: – 6m, 8m
Trial 3: – MAJOR LYND (Art Major – Vesper Lynd 1.58.2, $39,625) showed very good gate speed to lead and was untroubled in scoring. He was always a decent margin in front of his rivals and maintained that advantage in the run to the finish. NIKI NAH NAH (Captaintreacherous – Niki No No 1.55.6, $294,455) settled down last of the four runners. She came to the outside with 500m remaining and showed a good turn of speed up to the home turn albeit laying in a little then held her ground down the straight for a nice second. OUR ARABELLA (Blissfull Hall – Modern Mary 1.56.6, $29,485) finished in third position after trailing the leader throughout and FIVE STAR SHARK (Four Starzzz Shark – Forest Charm 2.3.3, $9,900) (3 back markers) finished last of the four runners.
Mile Rate: – 2.4.7 Final Half: – 62.3 Margins: – 10m, 4m
Trial 4: – KYVALLEY SHAUNIE was able to lead throughout and jogged home to defeat MAGICAL, which trailed him for the duration. Both horses weren’t fully extended in the run to the finish and have the ability to win races this season. DEE started yielding ground from the 700m mark and dropped right out to finish a distant third. WALKERVILLE STAR galloped away and was tailed off throughout.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.8 Final Half: – 62.2 Margins: – 10m, 100m
BLACKBOOKER: – Kyvalley Shaunie
Trial 5: – IMPERIAL WHIZ led comfortably into the first turn but wanted to race fiercely throughout the middle stages. Despite racing keenly, he kicked on well down the front straight and held on to win the trial. SUNNYS LITTLE JESTIC trailed the leader throughout and went back to the sprint lane down the straight. She moved through to almost draw level but it is fair to say both horses had a lot of petrol left in the tank at the end of the event. ENROLLED did everything right but settled last of the three runners and dropped off with approximately 500m left to travel.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.0 Final Half: – 59.3 Margins: – ½ Head, 25m
Trial 6: – SUNROSE MASTER was the class runner of the trial and pressed forward to find the lead shortly after the start. He set up a slow tempo and was able to dash up the straight to hold his rivals safely at bay. SILKY SMOOTH EXCUSE trailed the leader throughout, came to the outside turning for home and tried hard for second. MONA MIA settled down in last position and was a good twenty metres behind the third horse TRADE WHISPERS for the majority of the trial. She picked up a lot of ground in the back straight on the final occasion and switched back to the inside approaching the home turn. She probably came to the end of her run late but she would have run a quick final half. TRADE WHISPERS raced very greenly early and wanted to race a little fiercely. He then started to hang in on the corners and dropped right out at the end to be last of the four.
Mile Rate: – 2.5.4 Final Half: – 58.7 Margins: – 4m, 1m
Trial 7: – SHANIA TEE (Shadow Play – Dancinwithjodi 1.59.3, $12,773) was the last horse to begin and was a good 25m behind the leader in the early stages. She remained at the tail of the field and steered a wide course in the final 400m but produced a big finish to win the trial. She scored by 2m but she could have won by further. ANOTHER MORTGAGE led out then took a trail around the first bend. He dashed to the lead on the home turn but couldn’t withstand the challenge of SHANIA TEE in the latter stages. GO ACCUSED (American Ideal – Low Velocity 1.56.8, $121,993) settled three back on the markers and finished in third position while the early leader MISS DUNCAN (Alta Christiano – Scented 1.58.0, $35,988) dropped out to finish last of the four.
Mile Rate: – 2.6.2 Final Half: – 59.5 Margins: – 2m, 5m
