Trainer Tim Butt told RSN’s One Out, One Back (click link at bottom of article to hear) this morning that his reigning Miracle Mile champion, My Field Marshal, is ready to roar at Menangle on Saturday night in the $1million Grand Circuit classic.

“Without doubt, he’s a real miler,” Butt explained when asked if this had been his stable star’s sole grand final goal.

My Field Marshal generally sits off the speed and pounces late in his races, and he’s got a strong record on the vast expanses of the Menangle track.

A sharp early quarter and some heat up front would bolster My Field Marshal’s chances.

“Mark Purdon holds the key to the race (with three in it),” Butt said.

Meanwhile, Mark Buckingham joined the program to talk about the Nic Dewar Memorial Series at Shepparton on Tuesday, March 5, and Young, New South Wales, on Wednesday, March 20.

Dewar was tragically killed in a road accident last year. He was 18 years old and a popular young harness racing participant.

“It’s a wonderful concept to remember Nic and also enhance the young talent we’ve got coming through the ranks,” Buckingham said.

“Nic was the most polite, honest, enthusiastic young fella you could meet. It was an absolute tragedy to be taken so young. He was wide beyond his years and he had such an enthusiasm for not only harness racing but life in general.”

Trots Club’s Victoria’s Toby McKinnon was in the studio with host Cody Winnell to talk through the series named in honour of the late Dewar.

Also on the agenda is the Charlton Cup Night Punters Party at Tabcorp Park Melton, the Seelite Windows and Doors Eastern Challenge and Bruce Skeggs Memorial Cranbourne Trotters Cup, the inaugural Glenn Myles Memorial Mile at Hamilton and plenty more.
