The Lee family farm that has achieved great success over the years is being given a significant upgrade.

Paddy Lee, who trains from the property alongside his mother Marg, told TrotsLife that a new training track is being built to replace the existing 700m circuit.

“The breed of our horses these days, we have decided to put in a new 1200 metre track, just with bigger, wide-open turns like Melton. Just to try and get more longevity out of our horses,” he said.

This explains why the two Lee stables have been relatively quiet of late. After finishing Breeders Crown and Vicbred campaigns late last year, Marg and Paddy have had restricted numbers while the works take place.

“At the moment it’s a three to four-month plan,” Paddy said.

“We can’t work a lot of horses, so we are just working a few race ones and prepping some two-year-olds at the moment and hopefully (it’s) a bit of short-term pain for long-term gain.”

Despite this, Paddy has three trotting mares returning to the track in upcoming meetings. He has Elegant Jet engaged at Ballarat this evening and Sultan Sass and Imamaorijet at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday.

“They have worked up together, there hasn’t been a lot between them the whole time they have worked up,” he said.
