Vale Neil Richmond

The Geelong Harness Racing Club is in mourning following the sudden passing of life member and former club President Neil Richmond on Friday 2nd August. Neil led the club from 1984 to 1989.

Neil a most passionate harness follower who resided at the family property ‘Rockleigh’ on the outskirts of Little River, raced and bred many horses over the years with a number of friends and acquaintances before forming a most successful association with the Knight stable, the best probably being exceptional juvenile Rockleigh Victory, a son of Victory Sarnel and Rockleigh Gal who won in excess of $370,000 in stakes during the Moonee Valley era.

Rockleigh Crown was another very classy pacer that he bred but was later sold. Most horses carried the Rockleigh prefix in their name.

Neil also held a share in a smart horse by the name of Western Light which won the 2002 Kilmore Pacing Cup and was trained at Terang by the late Neville Clarke and in later years raced horses in the Geoff Webster (Bannockburn) stable.

Neil is survived by wife Elizabeth (Beth), and daughters Susan and Heather along with son Colin.

Harness Racing Victoria send sincere sympathy to the Richmond family.

Neil’s funeral will be held at Rockleigh next Tuesday from 11am.
