Vale Roger Brereton

The tightly-knit Gunbower community has been saddened by the sudden passing of Roger Brereton.
The highly-respected president and former secretary of the Gunbower Harness Racing Club died last weekend at the age of 80.

Roger had taken over the presidency from Bill Poxon after serving on the committee for over 60 years.
Club secretary Peter O’Shea was full of praise for Roger, who was always willing and able to assist the club in any way possible. This included a stint as treasurer at one stage.

Close friend Kevin Inglis also paid tribute to Roger, saying he was such a huge contributor not only to the trotting club but also the galloping club where he was also on the committee.

Roger loved his harness racing and at one stage stood very smart juvenile pacer Stormy Lodge, who was patronized by many owners and trainers located in the area and surrounds. He ran a hugely successful Jersey Stud and Dairy Farm in the district with his family and was also a major player in both football and cricket, plus other local sport.

Roger will be fondly remembered by the entire Gunbower population and Harness Racing Victoria sends its sincere condolences to the entire Brereton family.

Funeral details are yet to be announced.
