Lochinvar Art prevailed in his first trial back from a break, but there’ll be more hit-outs before we see the superstar pacer back at the races.

Trainer Rodney Lakey told thetrots.com.au he was happy with the seven-time Group 1 winner’s performance at Shepparton on Thursday night when he dashed home in a 56sec last half to beat New Yorker (Stephen O’Donoghue/Rebecca Bartley) by a metre in a mile rate of 1:59.6min.

Nathan Jack took the drive.

“He’s got the day off in the paddock today and looks bright enough,” Lakey said.

“I’m happy with the first trial. He probably needed to win considering the class difference between horses.

“They ran home in 56, which means he ran home in 55-something.

“Can’t ask for much more than that at this stage. All in all happy.”
