Zadaka is being aimed at this weekend’s Terang Co-Op Pacing Cup after a blowout victory at Ararat on Friday night.

The Greg Norman-trained gelding capitalised on the hot speed set up front by favourites Ryley Major and Im Anothermasterpiece, storming home down the outside to win the Group 3 Renown Silverware Ararat Pacing Cup at in excess of $50 on SuperTAB.

The eight-year-old held out the late challenge by Majestic Cruiser, who charged home from back in the field to run second, beaten just a head.

It was a special Trots Country Cups Championship series win for driver Jodi Quinlan, who dedicated the success to her late half-sister Kathy Carson.

Quinlan also paid tribute to Norman, who trains privately out of Charlton.

“He is very underrated and does a super job with the horses. Full credit to him and the Cormack boys. They try to have nice stock and this horse, he probably deserved to win a cup,” she said.

"He probably was a bit overlooked because of the draw and stuff.

"He's a dour stayer and I thought half-way up the lane the outside horse (Majestic Cruiser) was going to get me. I swapped hands a bit with the stick and tried to trick him a little bit, but he got the job done."

Zadaka has now won three races for Norman since joining his barn and is among the nominations for Saturday night’s Terang feature at Group 2 level. The $50,000 race has drawn a cracking list of potential starters, with the likes of Wolf Stride, Fourbigmen, Triple Eight, Somewhere Secret and Malcolms Rhythm all looking to back up from a recent start in the AG Hunter Cup. Our Princess Tiffany is also a chance of running after her win in the Ladyship Cup.

Shelbourne trainer Kate Hargreaves was also celebrating a special win on Friday after her horse Well Defined claimed victory in the Group 3 Niota Bloodstock Ararat Trotters Cup.

The gelding, who is owned by Hargreaves’ brother Brett and his partner Brooke Palfreyman, made a mistake at the stand start but got trotting quickly and tracked favourite Havehorsewilltravel everywhere he went. Well Defined then moved to the outside in the home straight and wore down his Andy Gath-trained rival to score by a half-neck on the line.

The performance set a new track record over the 2570m trip (2:03.3 mile rate) and was Well Defined’s 12th win in a career spanning 69 starts. The defeat was the first for Havehorsewilltravel since arriving in Australia late last year.

“It was quite special as I have that connection to Ararat, having gone to school there for six years,” Hargreaves said.

“It was great to see familiar faces in the crowd and see their support.

“Brett and Brooke owning him added the personal connection and I was really happy for (driver) Ellen Tormey to get a big win on him as she does a really terrific job handling him.”

Well Defined is also among the nominations for Terang on Saturday, being one of the likely starters in the South West Conveyancing Trotters Cup at Group 3 level.
