Bellman, Herb and Campbell lead PCFA’s trot towards a cure

Harness racing laps will have even greater meaning this month when Michael Bellman, James Herbertson, and Paul Campbell will be among those circling for a cause.

The Victorian trots community is again joining with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in September, when Bellman and Herbertson will wear silks emblazoned with the charity partner’s logo to raise awareness of a cancer that affects more than 26,000 men each year.

Harness Racing Victoria will donate $200 to PCFA for each winner the reinsmen drive throughout the month, and it is hoped more community members will join The Long Trot and support the cause.

Campbell, a long-time participant and equine dentist, will again be among those pulling on his runners to raise awareness through his Campbells’ Comments channels, which will include the media host running laps of select trots tracks en route to the 72km monthly target.

HRV CEO Matt Isaacs congratulated the ambassadors and said it was terrific that the sport was building on its long association with causes to its community.

“Harness racing in Victoria has given incredible support to groups that are taking the fight to cancer, whether it be supporting WomenCan through Team Teal, the McGrath Foundation through Pacing for Pink, or the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia through The Long Trot,” Isaacs said.

“We are blessed with a generous and giving community, whose actions are making a difference, not just through raising vital money that helps fund research and support, but by raising awareness.”
