GOODFORM – Craig’s Charlton selections for Monday

Craig Rail has done all of the form for the big program at Charlton on Monday afternoon

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: COLLEAGUES (7) has gait issues but he appears to be hard to beat against this class if he delivers a fool proof display. He was going to finish in second at Maryborough last week but broke stride at the 100m mark and ended up being placed in fifth. OLIVER SMUDGE (5) hasn’t raced since May 2023 but he was a runaway trial winner at Maryborough last week. He is nicely bred and strikes a suitable assignment for his first up performance so he cannot be underestimated. SOME DAYS WE DREAM (1) is resuming since December and hasn’t been to the trials but she is worth thought from the pole position. PETITE FOUR (6) is having his first run for trainer Ken Whelan and might be able to fill a place against this class.

SELECTIONS: COLLEAGUES (7), OLIVER SMUDGE (5), SOME DAYS WE DREAM (1), PETITE FOUR (6)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: PIRANI PERFECT (4) has been placed in both of her starts since transferring to trainer Rebecca Bartley and met a stronger field when second behind Crackin Philtra in a slick mile rate of 1.56.0 at Kilmore last outing. She possesses early speed and gets her chance to break through for a win. MAJOR LINCOLN (7) was slow away and settled a clear last early when fifth at Swan Hill last outing. He was placed at his five attempts prior and should be hitting the line strongly. ROJENBYE (3) performs well at Charlton having been placed in four of his six starts (2 wins) to date. He is better drawn than his recent performances and gets his chance to improve on his numerical form. PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (6) disappointed at Hamilton last week but he is a fast beginner and this race is easier so he can show improvement.

BACK: PIRANI PERFECT (4) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: PIRANI PERFECT (4), MAJOR LINCOLN (7), ROJENBYE (3), PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (6)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: TOTALLY STUNNING (7) has returned from a spell in good form having been placed in all of her four attempts and looms as one of the leading chances again. She finished quickly to win at Shepparton on September 15 and finished off well for third in a slick mile rate of 1.53.9 at Wagga last outing. HUNGRY HOGARTH (3) settled midfield, raced fiercely and finished off solidly for a close second at Swan Hill last outing. This race is no harder and he should be competitive again. LEONARD (6) sustained a flat tyre when in the leading role and had excuses last outing. He led throughout at a recent Swan Hill victory and is worth another chance. YOU’VE BEEN SERVED (4) was runner up at Swan Hill two starts ago then didn’t have much luck at Mildura so he is not without a chance.

SELECTIONS: TOTALLY STUNNING (7), HUNGRY HOGARTH (3), LEONARD (6), YOU’VE BEEN SERVED (4)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: ICANMOTOR (7) has had several chances since his latest victory but he was placed three times in succession against similar grade back in October and should run a good race again despite the wide draw. DANCIN WITH ELVIS (2) is a fast beginner and gets his chance to improve on his recent efforts. He met a stronger field at Hamilton on October 26 and is backing up quickly from his effort at Mount Gambier on Friday night. GO GEORGE GO (4) is a grinding type that finished third from behind the leader at his latest appearance. He has had four starts on the track for a win and a third and is worth thought under these conditions. MY LUCKY ROCK (1) has been safely held at her two starts back from a break but she should be getting fitter and her form last preparation would suggest she can be competitive against this line up.

SELECTIONS: ICANMOTOR (7), DANCIN WITH ELVIS (2), GO GEORGE GO (4), MY LUCKY ROCK (1)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: SPORTS WRACK (4) hasn’t won a race in 19 starts for the season but this is his easiest assignment for a long time and he has the early speed to give a forward showing. He settled midfield on the markers when sixth behind Krissy at Kilmore last outing. JAMES GARNER (8) is resuming since a fourth at Ararat in March and hasn’t been to the trials but he would go close if he is somewhere near his peak. NO EMOTION (2) will appreciate a slight drop back in class and wasn’t beaten by far at his latest Charlton appearance behind Eyesealittle and Huxham Chubb (won twice since). He is drawn to run a good race. OUTBACK QUEENIE (9) has performed below her best since resuming but she appears to be better placed against this field and gets her chance to improve.

BACK: SPORTS WRACK (4) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: SPORTS WRACK (4), JAMES GARNER (8), NO EMOTION (2), OUTBACK QUEENIE (9)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: It is an open race with many winning chances. HALF AS TOUGH (11) settled midfield and came out three horses wide from the 600m when a creditable second behind the smart 2yo pacer Dispersion at Hamilton last week. He is poorly drawn but should be competitive again. ITS HYDROMATIC (6) has only been placed once in 21 starts but he was performing nicely at the trials prior to a fast finishing sixth when resuming at Kilmore so he gets his chance to improve. The former New South Wales pacer KELLYS COMMOTION (10) ran a reasonable race when third behind Millies Boy at her Victorian debut and is not without a chance. SEW HOPEFULL (8) has an awkward trailing draw behind the debutante CRYPTO CROOK (1) but he is racing consistently and is not without a chance.

BACK: HALF AS TOUGH (11) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: HALF AS TOUGH (11), ITS HYDROMATIC (6), KELLYS COMMOTION (10), SEW HOPEFULL (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: MISSMALACHITE (4) continues to perform consistently having been placed in six of her past eight starts and missed out by a narrow margin at Ballarat last outing. She possesses early speed and should make her presence felt. LESTER (9) is resuming since May and hasn’t been to the trials but he should prove hard to beat if he is close to his peak. He has won a race at Charlton previously and gets into this race nicely with a concession claim. YANKEE GAMBLER (10) should be building on his fitness after having two starts back from a spell. He performs best when he is close to the speed so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but he does have the ability to test this field. SKADI (2) led throughout at a Swan Hill victory on September 08 and has claims along with ESPERANZA (1) and ZEUSS (5), which will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment.

SELECTIONS: MISSMALACHITE (4), LESTER (9), YANKEE GAMBLER (10), ZEUSS (5)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: SAINT EYES (3) settled midfield and was held up for a run at a vital stage before finishing stoutly for second behind Snickers Express at Maryborough last outing. His two efforts since resuming have been sound and he is worth thought again. CONNIES PRESIDENT (8) has won two of his past four starts and looms as one of the leading chances again. He trailed the leader after commencing from the inside of the second line when he won at Horsham two starts ago then picked up ground from the second half of the field at Maryborough. WHY NOW (11) commenced from the tough handicap of 40m when third behind the in-form mare Keayang Minnesota at his latest performance so he is worth thought from the same mark against this slightly easier grade. ATABOY CHARLIE (4) has performed below his best form in two starts back from a break but he is a fast beginner and should be getting fitter so he is worth thought.

SELECTIONS: SAINT EYES (3), CONNIES PRESIDENT (8), WHY NOW (11), ATABOY CHARLIE (4)

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: CAPTAIN MOONLIGHT (1) is a former New Zealander, which was performing well at the trials prior to a third in the West Wyalong Cup on his Australian debut, where he commenced from the second line and was driven aggressively to find the lead with two laps remaining. He appears to be ideally placed from the pole position and will take beating. MY MATE ACE (3) is stepping up in class but is racing at his peak form and is a chance of completing four straight victories. He trailed the leader and used the sprint lane when he defeated Tryx Vixen (won since) at Kilmore last outing. THE WISE GUY (2) was resuming since August 2025 when he worked home reasonably well for third behind Decode in a sizzling mile rate of 1.54.9. He should have benefited from that performance and is better drawn so he must be considered as a winning chance. RABADA (5) is resuming but was racing at Metropolitan level at his last campaign and has claims along with EMILY VINCENT (7) and MISTER JIMARINGLE (10), which bounced back to his best form with a win in a career best mile rate of 1.54.5 at Kilmore last outing.

BACK: CAPTAIN MOONLIGHT (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: CAPTAIN MOONLIGHT (1), MY MATE ACE (3), THE WISE GUY (2), RABADA (5)

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: SURETHING (7) was resuming since a victory at Mildura in June when she attempted to lead early, was stranded without cover and eased back to the markers to settle three back at her latest creditable second. She should be fitter from that performance and is capable of overcoming the poor draw. ROCKAMARA (8) has only been successful once in 13 attempts but that victory was at Melton over Sheer Me (won twice since) and the mile rate was a quick 1.55.7. Her recent efforts have been in South Australia and she must be considered as a winning chance on her Victorian return. BUBBLE OVER (9) was resuming since May when third behind the smart pacer Colosimo at Terang. She should be fitter from that run and is worth following. PHILS BOY (5) beaten the easier Maiden class at Mildura last outing but he won easily and has improved with every start to date. He is worth thought along with JANSEN (10), which was a winner at Maryborough on October 12.

SELECTIONS: SURETHING (7), ROCKAMARA (8), BUBBLE OVER (9), PHILS BOY (5)
