Jackson Barby was recently awarded the Pride of Workmanship by the Maryborough Rotary Club.
The 26-year-old is honoured by the award, which recognises his commitment and dedication to the Maryborough Harness Racing Club over the last 12 months.
“It did come as a surprise, I must admit,” Barby said. “Those things are very humbling, and it is always something to look back on with pride.
“Certainly, there has been a lot of work that has gone on behind the scenes at the club over the last 12 to 15 months, which is a lot of the stuff you don’t see.
“In terms of upgrading our systems and our governance over time, setting our plan for the next three years. There is a lot of work that goes into them.”
Barby, 26, says he has been supported by the board through his tenure as General Manager since his appointment back in April 2023.
“One award never really belongs to one person. As I say, I am very humbled that I was able to receive that,” he said.
“I probably was an appointment that was questioned as I don’t have a harness racing background. For them to have the faith to bring me on board and back me was amazing.
“I could see they wanted to be a progressive club and that got me interested in being involved.”
