Goodform Gameplan: Bendigo Saturday August 28

Be prepared there’ll be a few races we’re not playing into tonight and this is one of them. So little separates a few here that tactics and tempo will likely decide the result. If POWDERKEG (3) is in the mood he may well monster them, but A JEWEL IN THE CROWN (2) is flying and ZAREM (6) can do wonderful things when in the mood so leave me out unless POWDERKEG (3) gets to $3.50 or better.

Not overkeen here either, but for the purposes of getting involved I think a little Bundle Bet with ALLSET (5) and DOT THE EYE (13) is worth a spec investment. No doubt KHAKI NUI (3) looks a nice horse but he’s a sit-sprinter by nature and the draw may not be as advantageous as it originally appears.

I have had something 1 x 5 on JACKSON SQUARE (12) at $100 and $17 as per my Thursday night Tweet but that price is long gone. The truth is COVER OF DARKNESS (8) has something on these but he’s a quirky horse with a bad gate so you’d need $2.80 to play him and that ain’t happening so I advise either staying out or backing 6,7,9,10,11 or 12 on a 1 x3 to 1 x 5 basis if any get to what you believe are ridiculous odds.

Ok, finally we have a race we can launch into. And, in ever better news, we’re playing a slew of First Fours in a race with a $2500 Jackpot component. The most likely scenario here sees IDEALSOMEMAGIC (3) cross and then trail KRAFTY BART (4) which should inspire total peg-domination. If not, DIAMONDS N CASH (1) holds then trails so we’ll work within those confines. 

SUGGESTED BET: 

Flexi First 4: 4/ 3/ 1/ 5,8: $20 gets 1000% 

Flexi First 4: 4/ 3/ 1/ 6,7: $10 gets 500% 

Flexi First 4: 4/ 1/ 3,5,8/ 3,5,8: $15 gets 250% 

Flexi First 4: 4/ 1/ 3,5,8/ 6,7: $6 gets 100% 

Flexi First 4: 3/ 4/ 1,5/ 1,5,6,7,8: $9 gets 112.5%

This is one of many massively confusing races on tonight’s card so playing for value seems the right choice. I can see them breaking the clock here and if they do WOULD YOU MIND (9) can swamp them. He has shortened from the opening quote of $9.50 but still seems value. Likewise, SHE WILL ROCK (1) appeals, at $12 given she’s a serious winning chance should CHASE THE HAT TRICK (3) find and retain the front.  

SUGGESTED BET: 

$15 Each Way WOULD YOU MIND (9) at $6 or better 

$10 Each Way SHE WILL ROCK (1) at $8.50 or better

I, like many others, availed myself of the $3.10 offered about IM READY JET (9) earlier this week. She could be anything, but this is an amazingly strong race so I can’t advocate taking the current quote of $2.10 and there’s nothing else I’m keen on so, once again, it’s a watch race for mine. But what a watch race it is!

BONDI LOCKDOWN (11) was definitely the way to play when $9 earlier in the week but the money has come, and then come again; so now we’re looking at a quote which no longer seduces the way it once did. On pure overs it might be worth having a 1 x 3 crack for small money on GO DANCING (3) at $16 as he’s now the best value from a % perspective but I’ve had my little play on Bondi and I’m not inspired to go again in a race with so many question marks.

I feel like a broken record here, but this is another tough race to tackle on the punt. YIANNI (5) looks the obvious leader and winner but the $1.70 doesn’t appeal. The only angle we can take here is Tricks and it won’t look pretty. The way I see it, if YIANNI (5) gets a painless lead only three horses are likely to run second. If THE LAST CHANCE (2) crosses it will be him, and if not, it will be HUGO ROCKS (9) from three poles or SHADY AZZ (7) from the breeze. Beyond that we’re playing crazy wide for this and not breaking the bank.

Flexi Trifecta: 5/ 2,7,9/ 1,2,4,5,7,9,11,13 ($21 gets 100%)

Part of me really wants to back TRIPLE EIGHT (3) here given I marked him so much shorter than he is and he’s hard fit against largely fresh opposition, but the race has all sorts of hairs on it so I’m staying out. If you’re that punter that always plays overs, then by all means press on or perhaps even lay OUT TO PLAY (2). I shall cheer for you without joining the circus.

Hello there, it’s me again, the bloke with very little to offer. Well, that’s not true. I can offer this. HIGHCLERE (3) should lead here, MOONLIGHT DRIVE (1) should trail, and one of them should win; with MOONLITE DRIVE (1) the better chance of the two. If things are travelling well at this point I may play here but the current prices aren’t inspiring me so I shall play things cool for now and suggest you do the same.

There are a bunch of potentially fun options on offer for exotic players here as the class discrepancies are predictably vast for a race of this nature, but hearing Andy Gath say he’d want Kate to park ALWAYS FAST (6) with FYNN FROST (5) if that became an option, I feel SIRLETIC (7) can sit last off a moderate tempo and still swamp them late. At the $2.30 currently available he is very backable so rather than re-inventing the wheel then watching it fall apart I’d prefer to just have a decent bet on the horse I think will win.
