Ryan Phelan takes a look at a terrific 8-race card for Hamilton Cup Day.

R4 – 5:55pm – TK Landscaping Pty Ltd Maiden Pace – 2160m

10 – Soho Margarita

1 – Wicked Hangover

8 – Louise Luck

11 – Maxy Bomber

Soho Margarita is a 3yo filly who looks to have come on after being freshened up at the end of her debut season. She resumed against older horses in the Young Guns series from an awkward draw and was terrific to the line. With added fitness and a drop back in class she looks the one to beat.

BACK: 10 Soho Margarita - 2 Units (win)

R5 – 6:27pm – Alexandra House Sports Club Hamilton Trotters Cup – 2660m

8 – Keayang Chucky

7 – Aldebaran Vera

6 – Harold Smith

5 – Wish Upona Dream

Keayang Chucky is the class trotter here, runner-up in the Inter Dominion and always thereabouts amongst the top trotters. He was a bit fresh last week and galloped from the mobile, so I like the quick back up here. The last time he ran under the stand conditions was in the Kilmore Trotters Cup and he was a monster run off 30m behind superstar Callmethebreeze. If he can get away cleanly and be in touch soon enough, he will be too classy.

BACK: 8 Keayang Chucky - 3 Units (win)

R6 – 6:57pm – The Border Cup Final – 1660m

7 – Grinning Beach Boy

9 – Starzinhereyes

3 – Presidentialchange

5 – She Will Wantano

R7 – 7:27pm – Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup – 2660m

8 – Young Bluey

5 – Stormryder

4 – Blake Bolac

7 – Dee Roe

What an outstanding edition of the Hamilton Cup, with several high-quality pacers destined or already racing in the FFA ranks. I must be with Young Bluey despite the awkward draw as he’s been superb this preparation with each step up in grade. His run last week in the Bendigo Cup was terrific without any luck at all when it was hard to make ground. There looks to be a lot of tempo and if he gets the breaks he’ll be flashing at good odds.

BACK: 8 Young Bluey - 3 Units (win)

R8 – 8:02pm – Permewans Mitre 10 Hamilton Pace – 1660m

2 – Soho Americano

11 – Metro Assassin

10 – Ruff Nut

4 – Jilliby Giddey

Soho Americano is first up without a trial here, but any question around her fitness is negated by a perfect set up over the draw and distance. She proved herself to be one of the standout 2yos last season winning a heat of the Vicbred and placing in the final. Mick Stanley is an aggressive driver and should he find the lead she will be mighty hard to run down.

BACK: 2 Soho Americano - 2 Units (win)
