Lady Vici makes her return in readiness for a Group 1 mission

Lady Vici will make her return to the track this Saturday night in the APG Metro Maiden Trot before a potential Vicbred Super Series assignment later in the year.

The four-year-old went on a stellar run through February, March and April, winning five consecutive races before a break.

Trainer Joe Vassallo was happy to give the squaregaiter time off in preparation for some Group 1 action in September.

“We could have kept her going, I just thought she was good enough to go around in the Vicbred later in the year,” Vassallo said. “I just thought I would give her a bit of a break.

“I think she is good enough to go around in those races (Vicbred), whether she can win it is another story.”

The mare out of Lady Angus is ready for her first race day appearance since April 4 this Saturday night.

“She is first-up, so she is not fully wound up,” Vassallo, from Toolern Vale, said. “She had a trial yesterday (July 9) and she is ready for her first-up assignment.”

Lady Vici is out of the draw for mobile events and will start wide on the back row in the $15,000 APG Metro Maiden Trot for driver James Herbertson.

“Well, it is not a great help,” he said. “ There is obviously a bit of traffic to get around, but I will just leave that up to James (Herbertson).

“She was a little bit hard to get going, but she has got better with age. She has got gate speed, it is just a matter of her scoring up.”

The Joe Borg-prepared Inmydreams will start from barrier one, while the Scott Ewen-prepared Meadow Valley Star will join Lady Vici on the second row (13).

The APG Metro Maiden Trot is set to go at 8.09pm.
