Emerging siring sensation Volstead will stand at Llowalong Farms for the 2024 season.

Dr. Kath McIntosh announced the exciting news with Paul Campbell via his popular harness racing channel, Campbells Comments, today.

“Huge news, really excited. Been working on this for a while,” she said.

“Really pumped, he's an enormous stallion. He's doing a hell of a job in Australia, New Zealand and the US, so to have him standing with us in the flesh, (and) chilled semen, it's going to be amazing.”

At the end of his first season in Victoria, Volstead was on top and in front of all the great current pacing stallions in the 2YO Sires Premiership including American Ideal, Art Major and Captaintreacherous. His siring brilliance and dominance was highlighted by his name consistently showing up in young trotting feature races, with Nordic Reign, Val Thorens and Violet Stanford among the Group 1-winning progeny from last year.

At the Nutrien Equine trotting heats at Bendigo on Wednesday evening, Volstead sired three impressive winners including Derek The Jet, We Can Have It All and Enchauffour.

“He had 12 runners, three winners, two seconds and two thirds... There's some real quality and depth there as two-year-olds and three-year-olds,” Dr. McIntosh said.

Keayang Zahara, Nipotina, Maoris Mac, Third Eye, Ikigai, Argyle Rocks, Ajay Volstead and Pinnie are among his other notable winners who look to have a promising future.

“For us, it complements our trotting stallions we have. King Of The North, fastest son of Walner from a superstar dam and a grandson of Chapter Seven. King Of The North will be a breed changer here in Australia,” Dr. McIntosh said.

“Then we have Help Is On The Way frozen, a son of Chapter Seven as well, so we have that bloodline which is going to be a perfect outcross for broodmares in Australia.

"Volstead by Cantab Hall, he's proven and doing amazing things on the track. We've got Pastor Stephen, who is also a Cantab Hall. He has his first offspring just starting to race this year from a very small crop. I think seeing the cross Volstead has had and knowing the depth in pedigree with Pastor Stephen, we are going to have some really exciting times ahead with him as well.”

A service fee will be announced soon, but you can book for Volstead by contacting Dr. McIntosh on 0427 497 429.
