The Maori’s Idol Trotting Championship is taking shape with a Chris Svanosio quinella on Saturday night strengthening the Romsey trainer’s claims to the $25,000 crown.
Magicool put in a bold performance in Saturday night’s South West Conveyancing Terang Trotters Cup to win a second title with Magicool this season, adding the trophy to their Yarra Valley Cup triumph on November 7.
Since then the Tennotrump gelding’s eight starts had produced three placings but no ultimate success, but that changed at Terang when he put paid to leader and favourite Ronald J, held off breeze horse My Skypocket (fourth) through the final lap and kept at bay late swoopers stablemate Kyvalley Finn (second) and Deltasun (third).
“Today, just his manners again, getting away and getting around – he’s just such a good racehorse and that makes all the difference,” Svanosio told TrotsVision.
“He was fantastic. I was just trying to get close enough to Kate (Gath) to keep her horse (Ronald J) pulling a bit.
“Glen (Craven on stablemate Kyvalley Finn) tried to beat me but this bloke, he sat in the death in the Yarra Valley Trotters Cup and it was the same thing there.”
The victory has Magicool placed third on the Maori’s Idol Trotting Championship on 15 points, two shy of leader Kyvalley Finn, with Jerichos Trumpet separating the pair on 16 points.
Winning at Terang was a particularly pleasing result for Svanosio.
“It was my home track for a few years,” he said. “I had a fantastic time down here with Matty Craven and to come back and quinella the trotters’ cup here is just fantastic.
“The owners of this horse, I’m just rapt that they gave him to me. He’s been a fantastic horse for them and for me.”
