Pete’s pride Plymouth Chubb ready to put polish on a Super season

Should the Skyvalley Vicbred Super Series for 2YO trotting colts and geldings go according to script, champion juvenile Plymouth Chubb is set to establish a freshman season record that will take some time to top.

The Peter Manning trained youngster will start a prohibitive favorite to chalk up his 13th consecutive victory in his heat at Maryborough and is likely to be sent out a short-priced favorite in the final at Tabcorp Park on New Year’s Eve.

Plymouth Chubb has already surpassed the previous record of 10 wins for a two-year-old trotter established by Blitzthemcalder (2012) and Wobelee (2017).

Manning is no stranger to putting the polish on prolific winning juveniles of the pacing variety.

“Sheza Mona won 21 races as a two-year-old and both Pelicanrama and Greek Gambit won 18 races,” Manning said.

He said Plymouth Chubb’s training track demeanor belies his absolute dominance on the race track.

“He never showed much at home and he still doesn’t, but he switches on when he gets to the races,” he said.

Manning believes the son of Majestic Son’s greatest attribute is his strength.

“He sits in the death after coming three wide and when Kerryn asks him to go, he kicks away.”

Manning admits even he was taken aback when Plymouth Chubb sizzled around Bendigo in 1:56.6 over the flying mile in The Gavin Lang Aldebaran Park 2YO Trotting Mile.

“I don’t think many two-year-old trotters have run that sort of time,” he said.

The Anton Golino trained filly Revelstoke is starting to fulfil her considerable potential and appears the horse to beat in the two-year-old trotting fillies’ division.

A certainty beaten at her race debut, Revelstoke has won all four races in which she has galloped or been checked in the run and should prevail in the heat on her best behaviour.

Talented three-year-olds Aldebaran Zeus and Parisian Artiste look set to clash in the Aldebaran Eagle three-year-old trotting cots and geldings final after looming as the likely winners in their respective heats, while New South Wales visitor Fancy has drawn favorably to find the lead in the first three-year-old trotting fillies heat.

The Blake Fitzpatrick-trained daughter of Quaker Jet was shooting for her sixth consecutive win when placed behind Bacardi Barmaid at Menangle a fortnight ago but should return to the winner’s stall at Maryborough.

CRAIG RAIL ON MARYBOROUGH

RACE 7: ALDEBARAN EAGLE VICBRED SUPER SERIES (3YO TROTTING FILLIES 1st HEAT)
EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1, 3, 6, 7
SELECTIONS: SENITAS STRENGTH (3), FANCY (2), EVAS IMAGE (1), AMOUR MATERNAL (6)
RATINGS: 2, 3 / 1 / 6 / 5, 10
SUGGESTED BET: Boxed Trifecta 1,2,3 (Cost $6)
COMMENT: SENITAS STRENGTH (3) is resuming since a seventh in the Victoria Derby Final on October 31. She raced without cover and won a heat of that series so she will take beating against her own sex. The New South Wales trained filly FANCY (2) was unplaced in three starts during a Victorian campaign last season but she has been in outstanding form recently having won five races in succession before a game third at Menangle. She is a fast beginner and is drawn to give a forward showing. EVAS IMAGE (1) stepped away nicely and led throughout from the standing start at Melton two starts ago. She tried hard when third in the Scotch Notch Mile last outing and should go well from the pole position.

BLACKBOOK: Maryborough, R6 N3, Rohaan
At Melton on December 14, ROHAAN continued his excellent trial form leading up to the Vicbred Super Series, where he will contest a heat at Maryborough on Monday. He was able to lead throughout and only scored by a narrow margin but he had a little bit left in the tank. REPORT
Cranbourne, R4 N5, Shes A Hovercraft
At Cranbourne on December 11, AUSSIE MUSCLE finished second position after trailing the leader (pacer ONEHANDONEBOUNCE) throughout. The other pair in the trial FREE STARR and BLANCO CANYON both made errors. FREE STARR galloped at the start and lost 40m, whereas BLANCO CANYON missed away by 30m before breaking stride again at the 300m mark. AUSSIE MUSCLE and FREE STARR will both contest heats of the Super Series at Maryborough on Monday. REPORT
