Having been extremely professional on debut prized trotter Aldebaran Zeus will look to turn his impeccable breeding into more success at Kilmore tonight.
Stepping out in the Triple Treat Harness @ Trackside 2YO Trotters Handicap, the Brent Lilley-trained Muscle Hill colt will look to go two-from-two after winning handsomely on debut at Bendigo on March 6.
Bred and owned by Aldebaran Lodge, which now co-leases him with Tracey Cullen and Danny and Melinda Thackeray, the colt was passed in at the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale with a $60,000 reserve.
He is out of Swedish bred mare Zoia Boko, a full-sister to Yield Boko, winner of $814,031 including two Swedish Breeders Crowns, and steps out at 7.51pm on Trots Vision amid a seven-horse field.
Reinsman Chris Alford told RSN Central this morning Aldebaran Zeus, who’s the only horse off 10 metres, said he “was really good first off”.
“He’s going to have to dodge and weave a little bit early but he seems pretty foolproof at the moment, touch wood, and his ability’s really good,” Alford said. “As long as he doesn’t get checked and gallop he will be winning that race.”
Also in the field are three first starters, with Andy Gath debuting War Dan Strikes, a Father Patrick colt out of Countess Angela who sold for $62,000 at the 2019 sale, Brent Lilley is debuting Hi Ho Kyvalley, a Love You gelding who fetched $34,000 at the sale, and Steve Connor is debuting Mustang Kelly, who he co-owns and co-bred.

While GoodForm analyst Blake Redden rates Aldebaran Zeus a $2.20 favourite, he also expects Jodi Quinlan’s Illawong Moonbeam to be well in the market.
The Love You filly is out of Illawong Moonshine, a full-sister to Spidergirl ($317,657) and half-sister to Illawong Armstrong ($230,652), and made her way into Craig Rail’s Trial File Blackbook after eclipsing handy three-year-old Mollys Purse at her Bacchus Marsh trial on February 22. Like Aldebaran Zeus she debuted on March 6 (see replay below) but an early break of gait spoilt her hopes.
Redden has placed Aldebaran Zeus on top (see below).
