So much to do and see during Mildura’s once-a-year celebration

Scott Ewen is just one member of Victoria’s harness racing family that makes the annual journey to Mildura in April, but like many that make the trek with him, he’s not just there for the racing.

The Cranbourne-based trainer-driver has three horses engaged on tonight’s 11-race card and will remain in town for the week to experience all the cup carnival has to offer.

“I’ve been up there as long as I can remember – we go every year,” he said.

“It’s just a real nice, relaxing place.

“They attract a good crowd actually and they probably think it’s just a great week. You can go and do other things in Mildura, not only go to the trots.”

The big week gets underway with tonight’s race meeting before Toby McKinnon broadcasts Wednesday’s edition of TrotsLife from Langtree Mall in Mildura.

The 11am-1pm show will have a distinct Mildura flavour, with McKinnon also on location for Thursday and Friday programs on SENTrack.

Thursday night is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and let down your hair at the industry party at The Setts, with Friday’s “locals night” expected to draw a strong crowd to the track for the 10-race card.

There’ll be live music, an outdoor bar and food trucks as things warm up for the third and final night of the carnival.

Saturday evening is being dubbed “family night”, with proceeds from the gold coin entry going to support the Riding for the Disabled Association of Victoria.

There’s plenty planned, including pony rides, wildlife demonstrations, interactive stage shows, face painting, craft tables and inflatable carnival games. And the best thing is that it’s all free!

A HERO horse ambassador will also be on track for meet and greet opportunities.

TrotsVision will bring you all the action from the Mildura Cup Carnival, with Ryan Phelan, Kirsten Graham, Tim O’Connor and caller Luke Humphreys heading up the full wall-to-wall broadcast on Saturday night for the Tasco Petroleum Mildura Pacing Cup Final and Aaron Bain Racing Mildura Trotters Cup.

It’s sure to be a week full of fun and great racing, and we’ll keep you up to date through it all at thetrots.com.au.
