Champion trainer Tim Butt has delivered the Victorian harness racing industry a significant vote of confidence, relocating his operation from New South Wales to Sunbury – about 24km from Tabcorp Park Melton.
In an interview with thetrots.com.au, the five-time Hunter Cup winning trainer described Victoria as “the spiritual home of harness racing”.
He also highlighted “the variety in (Victoria’s) racing” and said “(Victoria’s) younger administration seems to be getting it right and are very passionate about the industry”.
Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) General Manager of Racing Stephen Bell said he was pleased the state has enjoyed a strong recent influx of new trainers, including Butt, Shane Sanderson, Nathan Purdon, Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith.
“Having these trainers relocate to Victoria is certainly a vote of confidence in the local industry and the direction it is tracking,” Bell said.
“More trainers mean an increased racing population and a boost for local economies, especially in regional areas.”
