Terang Cup: Caldow to reunite with Gav’s old horse

John Caldow will reunite with a horse previously trained by his late great mate Gavin Lang in Saturday night’s Terang Co-Op Pacing Cup.

Caldow has got the call-up to partner Sirletic, who previously ran for Lang but is now trained by David Aiken in Avenel.

Lang’s wife Meagan remains in the ownership of the gelding, which has drawn barrier six for the $50,000 Group 2 event.

Caldow, who recalls being gifted the drive on Sirletic by Lang to reach his 100th win of the season back in 2016, admits it is special to get back behind the son of Rocknroll Hanover.

“We were good mates and it’s all happened pretty quick,” Caldow, who will wear Lang’s old colours in Saturday night’s race, said.

“To be able to get the chance for starters… and if I can get the job done, it would be very satisfying.

“He’s a genuine chance, for sure.”

Sirletic heads to the race in good form after consecutive third placings in the Garrards Horse & Hound Bendigo Pacing Cup, Neatline Homes Shepparton Gold Cup and TAB Pure Steel.

Aiken has two runners in Saturday night’s feature, with the other being Malcolms Rhythm, who backs up after finishing eighth in the Del-Re National A.G. Hunter Cup. Son Josh will take the drive.

Caldow also has a good hand in the South West Conveyancing Terang Trotters Cup, where he will drive Andy Gath-trained McLovin.

Caldow last won the Terang Trotters Cup in 2016 with Super Zeck, but has never tasted success in the Pacing Cup.
