ARDEN VOYAGER (10) was always going to come up nice and short here. If you’re playing Multis you can definitely throw him in but I won’t be advising punters to wager the kind of cash required to make proper coin off him straight out so we’ll focus on one semi-aggressive Trick knowing that we’ll still need fortune to get a decent result.

Confidence:
Some of the early prices in this affair were pretty attractive if you wanted to take on the favourite but the punters have recalibrated things relatively nicely, much to our chagrin. If you’re Jonesing to get involved then FEAR NOT (6) still represents a hint of Each Way Value at $9.50 but really its now just a race to play through Early Quads.

Confidence:
Odd little race this one. BE THE ONE (1) deserves favouritism and will probably win but has maintained an inaccurately short quote throughout betting to my eye and is worth taking on. Many hardened punters will scoff at the suggestion but I reckon a little Bundle Bet with MENDED (7) and A VAPAR STORM (8) is the way to go here at their prices. Don’t break the bank but consider giving yourself an interest wager on the affair.

Confidence:
RIDE HIGH (6) is one of the most naturally gifted pacers I’ve seen over more than two decades following the sport and he will win by as far as Kima Frenning wants here and I’m happy to play in the race expecting dynamite sit-sprinter IDEALSOMEMAGIC (3) to sit well back in transit but ultimately overwhelm most of his rivals in the lane and run either second or third.

Confidence:
Well done if you got the $2.80 about STEAM PUNK (5) here but I reckon the $2.40 is still big value having marked him $1.70 tonight. To my eye he is potentially a half-grade above his rivals here as he should lob handy enough even from a tricky gate and if he does he just might blow them away in the lane. This is my Best Bet all night so hopefully he rewards my confidence.

Race 6
Confidence:
I honestly believe if he brings his A-game and a few things work out early on that URBADBOY (3) may destroy his rivals here but fate has conspired against him so many times of late he may well be cursed so I can’t take the $2.50 about him even though it aligns exactly with the quote I marked him at. Instead we’re going to travel down another dangerous route backing BETTERNBETTER (2) and PLAN CE (4) Each Way. The former horse has plenty of ability and is drawn for an ideal run, the latter may well have the speed to cross and trail soon after the start.

Race 7
Confidence:
We’re going to be agile and tricky here. I think WOBELEE (5) can turn the tables on MCLOVIN (7) from their last start clash but I sense the best way of going about this affair is to play some wild and wandering exotics rather than trying to be a hero. It’s such a high quality race in terms of depth that things can still go wrong but I’m pretty bullish we’ll get a result of some kind if we play smart.

Confidence:
I only hope that a few followed in the Tweet and backed FINAL PEACE (9) at $11 here because you can now lay off on a few if you so desire. Sadly my top tip is now $3.60 so my interest in the race as a betting proposition has waned but to be honest $3.60 is still not awful for a filly really going places in a race that should suit from a tempo perspective.

Early Quaddie
With Ride Hugh bringing us home in this Early Quad there’s precious little chance we’ll make a proper killing and I’m even vaguely concerned about Arden Voyager backing up from his brutal last start effort despite the fact he tackles a much, much easier race in the opening event tonight. Nevertheless we will play in the hope of getting Be The One beaten at what I believe to be inaccurately short odds which would pave the way for a profit of some kind.

We’ve probably placed enough pressure on Steam Punk straight out in the first leg here so we won’t one-out him in our Quads even though it is very tempting. And as far as the other legs go; there are really no deadest standouts so we’ll break with tradition and just have the one Quad crossing our fingers that at least one favourite gets turned over.
