Breeders Crown: Dan dominates $200 Game Plan punt-off

Dan Mielicki has claimed his place at the top of the tipping tree with a dominant display in the TAB Breeders Crown $200 Game Plan punt off.

The race caller returned a $309.77 profit from his $200 investment in Saturday night’s all star card, rewarding those who backed him via either the special Breeders Crown four-page spread in the Herald Sun or at thetrots.com.au.

That return gave Mielicki the tipping honours on the night, but SENTrack and Good Form analyst Jason Bonnington also turned a pretty profit, transforming his $200 invest into $315.40.

TAB’s Adam Hamilton had some shining moments, including jagging the quaddie, but ultimately had a small loss, while RSN 927’s Gareth Hall had a luckless night that would see him finish in the red.

Collectively the tipsters finished $239.87 in the black.

Here’s the wash-up:

Dan Mielicki Jason Bonnington Adam Hamilton Gareth Hall

DAN’S GOLDEN NIGHT:

Dan was almost flawless, kicking off with a lucrative all-up play in which he had Major Moth to win into Ladies In Red to win, with both saluting in outstanding fashion. That turned $70 into $264.60 and from there he was playing with the bookies’ money. He followed up with one of the plays of the card, investing in Watts Up Majestic ($15 win x $30 place) to create another triple-figure return. Dan then missed narrowly on Sheza Pleasure, who finished a closed fourth when a third place finish would have earned him a further $170 profit, but was the only punter to include Hurricane Harley in his eqarly quaddie and then followed up with a 50 per cent share of the quaddie.

BON’S PERFECT TRIFECTAS

J-Bon calls them Money Races for a reason and on Breeders Crown finals night they again proved his power play. After turning $50 into $90 with a Best Bet on Major Moth, Bonnington missed on Loorim Lake but made amends in the fifth and eighth races. He correctly jagged both trifectas, including getting the former 15 times to record a $111 profit. Bonnington then missed on the early quaddie and quaddie, missing Hurricane Harley (race one) and The Pantheist (race six).

ADAM HITS WITH BOOKENDS

Like Bonnington, Adam’s $50 invest on Major Moth was well spent, but it looked like being lean pickings when Our Princess Tiffany, Loorrim Lake and Techys Angel all failed to produce returns. He also took on Hurricane Harley in the early quaddie, but made amends in the quaddie. Adam played wider in the second and third legs, successfully snaring The Pantheist and therefore turning his $50 invest into an $82.70 profit.

SO CLOSE YET SO FAR FOR GARETH

It was all about the All Up for Gareth, but his dreams were shattered early on when Hurricane Harley clipped Lochinvar Art by a neck in a superb, track record equalling opening race. He also narrowly missed on the second leg, with Sweet Louise beaten 1.8 metres, before correctly calling Zeuss Bromac. Another metre here or there and Gareth’s All Up would have turned his $50 into a $221 windfall and guarantee he walked away with pockets full. It wasn’t to be, with Hall also missing with Aldebaran Tess, his race 8 trifecta and both his early quaddie (three correct legs) and quaddie (two correct legs). But it wasn’t all red, with Gareth the only punter to correctly have an each-way play on Cracker Jet.
